Introduction: Demonstrate each center for the class. Then, they know and
understand the expectations of them academically and behaviorally during this
activity.
Instructional Strategies: Allowing students to work in small groups and solve
problems

Center #1: Creating Sentences


Assignment: Use the cut out pieces of paper with portions of sentences mixed up to
create sentences. Then, write sentences in journal.

Center #2: Roll and Retell


Assignment: This center is teacher lead. Students will read a book on their reading
level. Then, they will write down three parts of the story they can remember and
share them with the group.After that, the teacher will ask a couple of basic
comprehension questions. Lastly, the students will play the game Roll and Retell
where they must roll the dice and re tell the part of the story in which the dice
identify.

Center #3:Free Reading and Writing


Assignment: Free reading and writing time in student library or at desk.

Center #4: Word Sort


Assignment: Sort the words with the long a headings:
Ai Ay A_E
Train Pray Game
Paint Hay Shame
Stain Tray Flame
Main Bay Came
Rain Clay Tame
Gain Stay Lame

After the word sort is complete and correct, they must put the words in each
column in alphabetical order.
