How is power balanced through the Legislative Branch?

Step 1: The Bill Begins

Step 2: The Bill is Introduced


The bill is introduced when its placed in the
hopper. A representative introduces the bill
and then the Speaker of the House sends the
bill to one of the House committees.

Step 3: The Bill goes to the


Committee
When the bill reaches the committee, the
committee members review, research, and
revise the bill before voting on whether or
not it should be sent back to the House floor.

Step 4: The Bill is Debated and


Voted on
Representatives discuss the bill and explain
why they agree or disagree with it. If a
majority of representatives say yes, it passes
in the House and then moves to the Senate.
Step 5: The Bill goes to the
President
When the bill passes in Senate, it goes to the
President. He can sign and pass the bill or
veto. There are two kinds of vetoes: regular
veto and pocket veto.
