to

In this lesson you will learn about the use of grammatical feature such as Will, Can,
Should, Have to in the context of capturing attention, expressing necessities &
expectations.

In using the expression, there are some grammatical features that you should notice.
In the previous lesson you have learned about how to express attention and state
necessity and expectation both in written and spoken dialogs. In this term, you will
focus on the grammatical feature of using Will, Can, Should, Have To that relate to
the context of capturing attention, expressing necessities & expectations.

Will
Will is commonly used to shows that something is possible or expected happen in
the future. For example:

I expect he will to come earlier.

You will not make me down at the concert, will you?

Will you tell your mother about your dream?

To construct the sentence, you should pay attention to the form below:

Affirmative : Subject + will + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement


Negative : Subject + will not/wont + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement
Interrogative : Will + Subject + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement?

Can
Unlike the use of will, can has several functions. It depends on the context as follow:
Use can when you want to talk about someones abilities. For examples:

She can speak English very well

Its not surprising if you can swim like a fish.

Use can when you talk about the ability to do something at a given time in the
present or future:

You can leave the room now if you have finished your test.

They cant fly to Bali because of bad weather.

Use can when you want to ask for permission to do something or get someones
attention:

Can you help me, please?

Can we start the class?

To construct the sentence, you should pay attention to the form below:
Affirmative : Subject + can + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement
Negative : Subject + cannot/cant + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement
Interrogative : Can + Subject + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement?

Should
Should generally expresses a personal opinion. But, in some case it can be also
used for giving suggestion or advice. For example:

You should check it to the mechanic.

They should make it by themselves.

He should fight for bullying

To construct the sentence, you should pay attention to the form below:
Affirmative : Subject + should + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement
Negative: Subject + should not/shouldnt + Bare Infinitive +
Object/Complement
Interrogative : Should + Subject + Bare Infinitive + Object/Complement?

Have to
Have to is used to express necessity or show that something is necessary to do. For
examples:

I have to get the bus before 6 or I will miss the meeting.

You have to get the voucher if you want to win the grand prize.

I have to send an email every day to the customers.

The sentences above have different meaning and purpose. In the first sentence,
there is the word canwhich shows that Yuli has the ability to swim now after her
brother trains her every weekend.

In the second sentence, has to show that the man need to use good language for
persuading people or visitor to come because it may his job. While the third sentence
shows that it is necessary to by the writer to have passport before going abroad. And
the last, should not shows that it is not a good idea to believe about that issue.
