WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Dana Turley

Directions: Students can be assigned an inequality problem where they create lessons or new explanations
of problems to be posted on the classs blog. Students can address material addressed in class and apply
that knowledge to a blog post that the rest of the class will get to see. Students will assume a professional
role as they become the instructor for a brief assignment. They have to engage in higher thinking as they
master the new content enough to show their classmates. A LoTi level of 4 will be reached due to how
students create and share with the class.

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:
MGSE9-12.A.REI.3 Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable including equations
with coefficients represented by letters. For example, given ax + 3 = 7, solve for x.
MGSE9-12.A.REI.10 Understand that the graph of an equation in two variables is the set of all
its solutions plotted in the coordinate plane.
MGSE9-12.A.REI.5 Show and explain why the elimination method works to solve a system of
two-variable equations.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: This task should take no longer than a single class period
and will help students learn from each other. As they explain a problem well enough to teach it to the class,
a deeper understanding can be achieved. If students cannot explain the problem on paper, audio can be
recorded to attach to their blog if needed. Students should be encouraged to use their strengths not work
against them. And as each post it filtered, the teacher will know that what is being posted and share is
correct/appropriate.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This lesson would reach a LoTi
level 4, due to how students create their own product for their classmates to view.

Importance of technology: This task cannot be completed without the technology. For the students to
view each others work, they must go to the blog. If the students attempted to create lessons/explanations
without the technology then time would be lost not only during the creation, but the only other way to
show other students is during valuable class time.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The only risk this task has is that students could wonder to
inappropriate sites while researching for their problem solution. As a teacher, I would walk around and
during any class time that is spent in a computer lab, and encourage parents to do the same if the students
were at home. I would hold to the Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I have never used a blog, and also never
encourages students to also partake in creating posts. I hope to expose the students to not only what it
means to have a blog, but to the math concepts involved in each assignment.
