Simple 4-step Crocheted Lace Bookmarks

Basic Instructions
This pattern uses the same basic tail for all and is well suited to accommodate your
own creativity and preferences.
Instructions for all bookmarks (4 parts):
1. String your beads and charms and make slip knot
2. Crochet the tail
3. Crochet the top/finish the tail
4. Pin work in pleasing shape to cork board and spray with Stiffener, let dry

Supplies:
• Size E crochet hook
• Size E glass beads
• Charms
• Cotton crochet thread (any size)
• Stiffen Quick or other craft stiffener
• Collapsible Eye Needles
• Embroidery needle
• Scissors
• Cork board to pin bookmarks on for stiffening
(1) String beads and charms
1. Use the collapsible eye needle to string the beads and
charms onto the cotton crochet thread in the following
order *beads(1-10 as desired), charm, anchor bead (if
needed to secure charm like the two on the left of the photo
below)* leaving a 24”-36” tail.

2. Thread the string back up through the all the


charm/beads to prepare for crocheting (see the one on the
right).

Make a slip knot close to last bead (shown above)


-Using the two strands as one-

1. Make loop
2. Pull double strand through loop
3. Tighten against crochet hook as close to the
bead/charm as possible.

(2) Crochet the tail:
Decide how long you want the finished tail:
Ch 40 = 7” Ch 45 = 8” Ch 50 = 9” Ch 5 for each additional ½ “ desired

From the slip knot, using a double strand of thread ch 40 (45, 50, etc) or amount above to get desired length.

(3) Choose your top to finish using one of the two methods below:
1. Double Charm method. String more beads or another charm as at the beginning.
2. Add one of the crocheted tops from instructions below (Spider Web, 10 Pointed Star or ½ Circle).
3. Both methods: Secure ends, break yarn, weave ends into chain.

Double Charm
String: (top) bead, charm, bead, (bottom) bead, charm, bead
1. Secure the beads for the bottom
2. Make the tail
3. Securer the beads for the top
4. Break yarn, weave in ends

[For the following tops you are now working with a single strand of cotton]
Spider Web with beads
String: bead, charm, bead, beads (9)
Row 1: ch 3 and sl into 3 ch from hook, ch2, turn
Row 2: dc into center of previous ch 3 space dc (10 times more) into center, jump the
tail and dc into center once more, sl into 2nd ch of ch2 space, ch2
Row 3: dc into first dc, ch2, *dc in next dc, ch 2, repeat * around, sl into ch 2, ch 3
Row 4: dc into first ch2 space, slide bead up and *ch3, dc in next ch2 space, slide
bead up, repeat from * around, sl into 1st dc, ch1
Break yarn, pull through last loop and weave in end.
10 Pointed Star with beads
String: beads (10), charm, and back through first bead in opposite direction,
Row 1: ch 3 and sl into 3 ch from hookch 2, turn
Do not turn the remaining rows-now moving counter clockwise
Row 2: sc 9 times into center of ch 3 space, jump the tail and sc 1 more,
join to first st
Row 3: *ch 5, move bead up, ch 5, sk one sc and sl into next sc, rep from *
4 times more
Row 4: *ch 10, move bead up, ch 10, sl into 3rd and every other sc of row 2
(behind and between previous ch 5 sl stitches), rep from * 4 times more
Break yarn, pull through last loop and weave in end.
½ Circle with beads
String: bead, charm, bead, beads(9)
Row 1: ch 2 and sl into 3 ch from hook, ch1, turn
Row 2: sc 9 times into center of ch 3 space, ch1, turn
Row 3: *2sc in each sc space around (18), ch1, turn
Row 4: *sc in next 2 sc, move bead up, repeat from *, ch1
Break yarn, pull through last loop and weave in end.
