(a) How much does a typical family of four spend at McDonalds restaurant per visit? The
amount is normally distributed random variable whose mean is RM58.5 and the
standard deviation is RM2.50
(i) Find the probability that the family spends less than RM55? [2 marks]
(ii) Find the probability that the family spends between RM55 to RM60?

(b) Previous studies from a recruitment agency found out that 1 out of 5 candidates fail in
the job interview due to sitting posture. Assuming 4 candidates has been selected for
further studies, what is the probability of at least 2 candidates fail the job interview?

(c) The accounting manager reviewed the error committed by the data entry clerk. The
number of errors is Poisson distributed with a mean of 2.5 errors per 100 data entry.
What will be probability of NO errors if the accounting manager randomly checks 100
data entry in the system?

Question 3 (20 marks)


An advertising company intends to study the impact of time spent on social media is more
than 30 hours/week. The standard deviation is 3 hours/week. A random sample of 50
subjects were studied where sample mean is 32.5 hours/week. Assume 5% significant
level

a) Formulate the null and alternate hypotheses [2 marks]

b) What will the inferences at 5% significant level [8 marks]

c) What is the definition of Type 1 and 2 Error in Hypotheses and the relevant Type 1
and 2 error in this scenario [5 marks]

Question 4 (10 marks)


The production manager wanted to evaluate the effectiveness of a new bottling conveyer
setup. A random sample of 20 bottles is selected, and the sample mean and standard
deviation of carbonated soft drink per 1.5-litre bottle are 1.465 and 0.233 respectively.
(Assume distribution is NOT normal with unknown population variance)
a) Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses. [2 marks]
b) What will be the inferences from this experiment at 5% significant level?
