HIC Test Checklist

Procedure:

1) Check which standard and specification is to be referred. Nace TM 0284 just gives Test Method,
for Acceptance criteria refer the Client specification.
2) Test Specimen Preparation i.e. Size and Orientation.
3) Controlled sample if specified by Client.
4) Type of solution A or B
5) Orientation of Test Specimen in test vessel. ( Wide face to be vertical and shall be separated
from each other by non-metallic or glass rod of 6mm minimum)
6) Ratio of volume of test solution to the total surface area of the test specimen 3ml/cm2.
7) Concentration of H2S minimum 2300PPM.
Iodometric titration method using the formula refer TM284, Appendix C
Ppm = [ (A x Factor) B] x 17030
C
8) pH measurement:

Solution A Solution B
At Start Of Test(Immediate 2.7 to 3.3 4.8 to 5.4
after H2S Saturation)
At the end of 96hrs Not Exceed 4.0 4.8 to 5.4

9) Test Temperature = 25+ 3C

Crack Thickness Ratio = (b/W)x 100
Crack Sensitivity Ratio = (a x b/W.T)x 100
Note: a x b to be taken as summation of multiple values of a x b and
not summation of a and summation of b and then its multiplication.
