Obtain the amplitude and phase responses of the voltage gain for amplifiers A, B and C shown in

Figures A, B, and C, respectively. All MOSFETs are enhancement mode devices with threshold
voltages Vtn = 0.7 V and Vtp = - 0.8 V. All devices operate in saturation with the following
transconductances and output resistances:

gm_n= gm1=gm2= 0.3 mA/V, gm_p= gm3=gm4= 0.5 mA/V, Ro_n= ro1 =ro2= 100 kOhm,
ro_p= ro3= ro4 =50 kOhm

The amplifiers operate on C_load =100 fF. The MOSFET capacitances are as follows: Cgs_n=
Cgs1= Cgs2 = 20 fF, Cgs_p =Cgs3=Cgs4 = 120 fF,
Cgd_n= Cgd1=Cgd2= 5 fF, Cgd_p =Cgd3=Cgd4= 30 fF.

For amplifiers A and B: consider a single pole response formed by output resistance Rout and
combination of C_load, Cgd_n, Cgd_p.

For amplifier C consider a two pole response: one pole is formed by Rout and C_load, Cgd2,
Cgd3. Another pole is formed by combination of Cgs2 and Cgd1 and the resistance seen by this
capacitance. The latter is formed by ron1 and resistance Rin2 looking into the source terminal of
M2.

a) Present calculations of the time constants forming the poles for amplifiers A, B, and C.

b) Present the amplitude and phase responses of the voltage gain Vout/Vin for amplifiers A, B, C

using the same Bode plot template for comparison.

Note that inverting amplifiers have a 180 deg phase shift at low frequencies.

Estimate the range of output voltage for circuits A, B, and C. All MOSFETs have to operate in
the
saturation
region.

Selection Diversity Simulation - Generate 1000 Rayleigh random numbers(see handout) in a

simulation vector for 4 different diversity branches using a scaling factorof A=10. If each
sample represents a signal voltage, plot the SNR in dB for all 1000samples for a single branch
(M = 1) assuming that R= 1 and the noise power is a constant1 W. From the plot, obtain a
qualitative estimate in dB for a typical signal fade and aworst-case signal fade. Determine the
average SNR for the single branch. Determine theexact probability that the SNR will drop below
15 dB and 10 dB (P15 and P10) for the singlebranch. This can be done in most computer
applications (Matlab, Excel, etc.) using an IFstatement with a vector that stores a 1 or 0 based
upon a threshold decision. The decisionvector can then be summed to obtain the total # of events
that exceeded the threshold, andthe probability can be calculated using this and the total number
of samples. Using theselection diversity criterion, combine the branches for M = 2, 3, and 4 (this
can also be doneusing the simulation vectors and IF statements). Determine the
average SNR, P15, and P10 for each diversity combination. Calculate the theoretical values
for P15 and P10 (seeexample 7.4, pg. 383). Present all these results (single branch and diversity
combinations)in a single table. In going from M = 1 to M = 4, where does the greatest single
reduction inP15 and P10 and the greatest single improvement in the SNR occur?
Write the logic equations using VHDL that must be implemented in the PAL 16L8 programmable
device so that pins O3, O5 and O7 will decode these address ranges for an 8-bit memory
interface respectively: CD000H-CEFFFH, DD000H-DEFFFH, EE000H-EFFFFH.

EPROM memory device.
