I am an assistant professor at Shenandoah University and have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Zadok
Miller during his time at Shenandoah University. As his advisor I have gotten to know Zadok on a personal level
and have been able to advise him in extra curricular opportunities that have greatly augmented his learning through
varied experiences.
Zadok was instrumental in the initiation and organization of a major medical mission trip to Brazil during
his sophomore year of nursing school. Zadok was actively involved in raising 18 thousand dollars to fund 10
students and 2 faculty as well charting the John Wesley Medical mission boat to bring healthcare to medically
underserved villages along the Amazon River. Upon return Zadok shared his experiences with prospective students
and then worked diligently to ensure that this opportunity would continue to be available to future nursing students.
During Zadoks junior year he was selected for a highly competitive Seminar focused on domestic
medically underserved populations that culminated in participation in the Remote Are Medical (RAM) in Wise
County Virginia. During the seminar portion the students spearheaded research projects into various underserved
populations that they then were tasked with presenting innovative solutions to their fellow classmates. The RAM
event allowed the students to be involved in the care of 2,100 medically underserved patients and assist in providing
$1,213,309 in services. Zadok expressed his admiration for the numbers of volunteers there to put the need of others
before themselves and how that truly embodies the nursing profession.
Finally in bringing together all of Zadoks nursing education and expanded perspectives on health he has
been able to found a debate team here at Shenandoah University for which he is the team captain. Zadok has put in
countless hours to ensure the success and growth of the debate team. After starting with 2 team members in the first
semester they were able to join the National educational debate association and in their first semester they placed 3rd
in both of the debates they participated in. By the second semester they expanded into 5 teams and Zadok lead the

speaking and communication skills and this is highlighted with a 1st place overall speaker at Ball State University.
Zadok has exulted that debate has helped him approach situations from a more creative manner. To Zadok, debates
relates to nursing because if one can understand the ideology of a patient, on why something isnt being
accomplished such as diabetic diet adherence, then one can begin to understand where the patient is coming from
and where they are headed. Once one understands this vital perspective, interventions can be implemented to
optimally serve the patient. This is both important for patient education and advocacy for the patient.
Combining these experiences with Zadoks strong character and leadership skills I believe make for an ideal
nurse and team member. He has shown great initiative during his 4 years here at Shenandoah University, and has
ensured that he has an exceptionally well-rounded education that will undoubtedly set him up to be successful in the
In closing I highly recommend Zadok for the position he is applying to. Please feel free to contact me with
