1. What is the topic of your lesson?

- The topic of my lesson is on family and multiculturalism. I also am focusing on
asking and answering questions while reading to understand the text on a deeper
level. This includes understanding how characters change and how events develop
throughout the story, which in turn represent the central idea.

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?
- This is a topic that I feel all students can connect with and/or relate to in one way or
another. Also questioning the text is an important skill and allows you to understand
what youre reading as well as infer answers.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?
- Building classroom climate by providing response opportunities, lesson planning and
implementation by questioning to use cues and feedback, and meeting the needs of
learners by encouraging and fostering student engagement through discussions. I
choose these because they are skills I want to continuously work on, and I feel that
best fit with my lesson structure.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did you
choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., was the idea from a methods course? From
your mentor teacher? Another source?)
- The way I designed the lesson for instruction is from the reading methods course and
using the Gradual Release of Responsibility model. This is an effective way to teach
students a strategy (questioning), while scaffolding instruction.

5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most challenging
part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?
- I believe that the most challenging part will be to effectively model asking and
answering questions while Im reading, so that the students understand what they
need to do. It is also difficult to focus on this, while incorporating cultural relevance
and the topic of family as well.

6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met successfully?
- I will know if the students have met the learning outcomes if they are able to ask and
answer questions while we read the text, and participate in a discussion at the end
about how what we learned helps us understand the text.

7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?

- I will follow my mentor teachers classroom management plan. I will focus on
keeping students attention and addressing behavior issues if needed as they occur.

8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention. Why
do you want your observer to focus on these areas?
- I would like my mentor teacher to pay attention to my use of modeling for the
students, feedback I provide to them, and how I relate the strategy and the theme to
the bigger picture of reading.

9. Is there anything else you would like your observer to know before the observation?
- Nothing at the moment.
