TheMurrayA ssociationforGiftedChildrenbeganbecausetherewereneeds.Firsttherewasaneedfor
parentsofgiftedchildrentonetworkwithotherparentsofgiftedchildren.A lthoughmanybelievethatgifted
childrenareeasytoraise,parentsknowdifferently.Theycomepackedwithavarietyofchallenges.
Second,avoicewasneededattheschoolanddistrictleveltohelpothersunderstandthatgiftedchildren
mayrequiresomethingdifferentintheirclassrooms.Third,joiningtogethergaveparentstheopportunityto
learnmoreaboutgiftedchildrenwithspeakers,newsletters,andothersourcesofinformation.
Soourassociationwasformedtomeettheseneedsandwehaveaccomplishedmuch.B utthereisstill
worktobedoneinalloftheseareas.A strongorganizationisdependentonastrongmembership.
