Project 3: Case Study Analysis

Many believe that having good grades in a test or assessment is a factor to having great

success. Because of this, people tend to panic and have anxiety about tests. They can have these

feelings before, during, and after the test. Katya is an example of a person that has severe test

anxiety. Despite having a history of having good grades with a grade point average of 3, she still

doubts her abilities and thinks that studying would do nothing for her. She feels the pressure

more due to the fact that she needs a good grade on the exam in order to keep her scholarship. It

is make or break since it is the final exam, meaning that if she doesnt do good, she cant work

on improving her grade afterwards. Because of these things, it is not surprising to know that she

had experienced panic attacks. Therefore, Katya needs some serious help if she wants to perform

well on the exam.

From my personal experiences, I can say that I have had moments very similar to Katya.

However, my anxiety was not as severe as hers. I believe that when people are put in a situation

where they are expected to perform well or must do well, they feel a lot of pressure. Whenever I

know that a test has more on the line than other tests, I tend to feel anxious and question my

abilities. It makes things hard to comprehend and even interrupts my studying. Knowing that one

test can have a big impact on your life and affect your future is frightening. I was able to

overcome these feelings by just having a more positive and optimistic mindset. I knew that if I

really wanted to achieve something, then I would do it. It doesnt matter the amount of time that
it takes; only the fact that I complete it. So, if I dont do so well on a test, I say that I deserved it

and can only learn and improve from it.

In today's world, tests are everywhere and are used to determine whether someone is

knowledgeable in a specific thing. They're found in both school and work, which are two

important places. Because there is so much on the line, people get test anxiety as they do not

want an unfavorable outcome. The thought of failing, having a low score, or not meeting a

specific amount are all reasons people have test anxiety. Having test anxiety is near-universal and

can be found across people with different age, culture, and gender. It is said that test-anxious

students have "self-derogatory cognitions, reduced feelings of self-efficacy, and anticipatory

failure attributions." When a test-anxious student takes a test, there is a barrier that blocks

students from their true potential and abilities. One recommendation that I have for people to

treat test anxiety is to go to a counseling center and getting therapy. Speaking to a professional

would help a person with their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Another thing that I would

recommend is having and maintaining good health. A persons health reflects the person that they

present themselves to be. One last thing is to always think positively no matter what happens. It

is not the end of the world if something unfavorable happens. It is best to learn from the

experience and prove that you are better than that.

Therefore, Katya must work on her self-confidence and should think about seeing a

professional for help. Test anxiety is common amongst people due to them treating the test as

something like a life or death situation. People must think positively and not let a bad grade

affect themselves negatively. By having a better mindset about things, people would be able to

alleviate the pressure that they feel.
