Introduction:
Day 1
I will hand out an outline for the first drawing project that reflects
on the mediums that they have been studying for the past
couple weeks. The students should apply the techniques that
they have been practicing to this project to show that they
understand some of the different processes for creating an
image. I will show them some examples through a Powerpoint
then we will head to the computer lab where they will begin their
research.
Day 2
I will start this class by doing a quick demo of how to map out a
composition with lines and basic shapes. I will do this on the
whiteboard with my reference photo on the Smart board.
Body:
They will choose an artist (from a list) and research their artwork.
They will choose a painting, make some preliminary drawings
using some previously studied mediums of the chosen painting,
then replicate the painting themselves using oil pastels. Copying
compositional elements and applying personal stylistic choices
will be the main focus of the assignment.
They will be given about 3-4 classes to work on this assignment
(2 weeks). Then we will have a short critique at the end where
the students will discuss which artist and artwork they chose,
then describe their process for making their piece. I will make my
way around the class each day and offer suggestions to help
better improve the students work.
Closure:
Near the end of the first work period, class I will tell the students
to think about the advice I gave them and mention some other
concepts that may come up as I walk around. I will also inform
them that the next class will consist of them doing a little more
practice drawings, and then the class after they will be starting
on their final pieces.

Modifications/Accommodations/Differentiation:
