Time Instructional Procedures and Strategies


Beginning the Lesson
5 min. The teacher will read an excerpt of Ceasefire by Michael Longley to the
class and ask them to guess or identify what is the poem referring to? What
was happening in this era that might have a relation to this poem?
5 min The teacher will present an event recording of World War 2 and relate how the
poem was written in this era.
Developing the Lesson:
20 Each of the students will be given a copy of Ceasefire and have a group
min discussion about what themes the poem is centered in then will write down
those themes and the reasons the theme is like that.
For the students to learn more about Michael Longley, they will play a game
10 with group divisions. They will be given a worksheet with multiple choices and
min they guess his age, his place of origin, his occupation, and the period in which
he lived. Whoever has the most correct guessed answers wins.

Closing the Lesson


The teacher would then discuss a short biography for Longley.
The teacher will give them a homework of highlighting phrases of the poem
which stand out to them and summarize the poem for the next meeting.
