RECOMMENDATIONS
Keith Oppenheim, College Professor
I've seen Josh make significant progress during the last two years. He's taken a total
of five courses with me, including classes on media criticism, studio production,
broadcast writing and a TV News workshop. Josh has worked hard at fusing writing
with his technical skills and made great strides.
Josh worked at the WCKS, Grand Valley's campus radio station where he became
comfortable with on-air work as well as technical mastery. He recently wrote an
essay about a wide range of production skills he learned during an internship at the
Scrubs in the Morning program at WTNR in Grand Rapids.
Along with other radio experiences he's had, Josh has become quite knowledgeable
and clear that he wants to be a radio broadcaster.
I believe Josh VanDyke is determined and will work diligently for any employer who
takes him on as staff.
I am writing to you as a reference for Josh VanDyke. Josh has been a valuable
member of my staff at MLive Media Group since this department's inception on Feb.
2, 2012. He has been willing and able to take on any tasks I send his way, and has
shown significant improvement in his writing, interviewing, and management skills
in that time.
Josh's primary duties include: as many as 10-15 interviews conducted and stories
written during the course of a shift, as well as coordinating and directing specific
tasks for one of our eight coverage regions, all of which he does expeditiously. He
understands the presentation of copy via multiple formats, whether print or digital.
He works as a leader and a member of a large team every day, and he works with as
many as eight newspaper deadlines looming each night.
I've often asked Josh to monitor our staff of over 30 employees in my absence, and
he has done so without effectively and without incident. Josh brings a positive
attitude to work every day, which has a positive effect on those around him. He
appears to have the respect and admiration of his peers, and doesn't shy away from
any leadership roles. Please give Josh consideration in your selection process.
