3rd Circular

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 14th International Congress of Ottoman Social and Eco-
nomic History, we are pleased to acknowledge once again your participation in the symposium which
will be held in Sofia (July 2428, 2017).
Below you will find some practical information regarding the arrangements of the Congress in general
and your participation in particular.
As you know the Program Committee has already finalized the process of abstracts evaluation and has
made the final selection of accepted papers, pre-organized panels and workshops. It is with great pleasure
that we may inform you that there was a commendable interest on the part of the applicants in submitting
pre-organized panels and workshops proposals, whose number amounted to almost half of the accepted
papers, which to our belief will ultimately result in a more thematically systematized program of the
Congress itself. What is more, we are happy to announce that we will have a workshop commemorating
the important Legacy of Prof. Halil nalck to the social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire, to
whose memory the current Congress is dedicated.
In order to facilitate the planning of the conference, we would like to kindly ask you to assist us in provid-
ing some additional information concerning your participation in the Congress.
Registration:
At a first place, we will appreciate it greatly if you inform the organizers as early as possible if you will
not be able to attend the Congress.
Likewise, we would like to ask you to fill in an on-line Registration form, which will allow us to orga-
nize the conference and the accompanying events accordingly, and also to be more efficient in providing
any official letter you might need for scholarship or visa application, so that you may plan your trip and
stay in Sofia with ease. Make sure that you have clicked at the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the
on-line Registration form after filling the required information in. The Registration form is available at:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc6Q4WHB6bClaLBobYnWmwucW0g7Z_P_vMNcuS-
rQHGVaRkLKg/viewform
It is the responsibility of the participant to obtain a visa if required. Please check with the consulate or
diplomatic mission in your home country or with your travel agency for visa requirements before filling
the Registration form, because through it we will collect information as to whether you would need any
letter from the Organizing Committee of ICOSEH for the sake of visa application and we can react in

due time. Detailed and up-to-date information about obtaining a Bulgarian visa as well as a list of visa
exempted countries can be found at: http://www.mfa.bg/en/pages/109/index.html.
As indicated in our previous circular letters, the registration fee for the Congress is set at 100 EUR. For
the sake of strictly organizational matters that need to be dealt with well before the Congress takes place,
we kindly ask you to transfer this sum prior to May 15, 2017. Please note that if you would like to take
part in the organized trip to Plovdiv/Filibe at the last day of the Congress, an additional payment of 10
EUR fee is also required. All payment details and the specific bank account number are available at the
end of the Registration form on the link provided above.
Venue:
The 14th International Congress of Ottoman Social and Economic History will take place in the Main
building of the University of Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski, the oldest Bulgarian university established in
1888. The University is centrally located and is easily accessible from all parts of the city by means of
public transportation and is at walking distance from any point of the city-center. In its closest proxim-
ity are located the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library, the National Academy of Arts, the
National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, the main building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
and St. Alexander Nevski cathedral church of Sofia. The address of the main University building is: 15
Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd., 1504 Sofia.

ICOSEH website:
To assist the participants in the Congress, we have created a website where we intend to publish not only
an up-to-date information related to the Congress, but also all sorts of useful data, relevant to your visit
to Bulgaria. For the sake of better visualization, on the website you may find maps indicating the exact
place of the Congresss venue, selected hotels in its vicinities, restaurants and bars, the location of the
still standing and already vanished Ottoman monuments both in Sofia and Plovdiv, as well as other useful
tips concerning local particularities. Please visit the website at: http://icoseh2017.weebly.com/

Accommodation:
As you know, every participant is responsible for his/her own accommodation during the Congress days.
In order to facilitate your choice, we have made a selection of hotels that are in walking distance from
the conference venue, i.e. the main building of Sofia University at 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. A list of
the selected hotels with all their details (websites, e-mails, telephone numbers, addresses, etc.), as well
as negotiated prices might be found on the website of the Congress at: http://icoseh2017.weebly.com/ac-
commodation.html. You may contact the hotels by e-mail, telephone or fax in order to book your room.
The list we have selected is by no means exhaustive, but rather serves as an orientation marker for the
closest to the University accommodation options. You are certainly free to book a room in hotels or else
outside our list of selections.
If you have any further inquiries, please feel free to send an e-mail to icosehsofia@gmail.com or contact
directly Dr. Grigor Boykov at griboykov@yahoo.com.
Looking forward to seeing you in Sofia!
Best wishes,
The Organizing Committee
