As of 2014 there is only one incident where a wild orca injured a human being,
However in captivity it is a whole different story 4 people have been killed and
approximately a dozen have been seriously injured in theme parks such as sea world.
Keeping whales in captivity puts a large amount of stress on them, The average age of
death of a killer whale in sea world is about 13 years that is less than half of those living
in the wild the wild the estimated maximum lifespan of a male orca living i the ocean is
about 60-80 years and females are estimated to live anywhere from 80 to over 100. So
with all these numbers and facts how is sea world still open? some may ask, well the
company is valued at 2.5 billion fortunately after the documentary Blackfish was
realized in July 2013 sea worlds profits have dropped an estimated 84 percent, Just last
year (2016) Sea world announced they would stop breading orcas making the 2 dozen
left in the company parks the last generation of captive whales.
