Child poverty and child development are complex and multidimensional phenomena. The
study of their interaction invloves the analysis of different biological and psycholosocial
components within a continous, dynamic, and growing interaction (Bradley & Corwyn,
2002; Evans, 2004; Lipina & Colombo, 2009)

In the course of the interview, stories heard from children incuded not only access to food
but also ways and tricks of securing maintenance in the streets. Through the years, most of
these children have lived within their immediate environs teaching themselves ncessary
skills to survive, while struggling amidst the competition with other children in the context of
adverse elements, yet ultimately blending into mediocrity and squalor of street life. The
date revealed not only nutritional status but also materials on street children from where rich
insights about them can provide abundant resource in crafting appropriate policies in the care
and proctection of this young impoverished sector.
Street children have become one of the most vulnerable population groups in our societ today.
They are the one of ten identified children in need of special protection to ensure their normal
development (Philippine National Strategic Framework for Plan Development for Children,
2009)
