1. Describe Formative Assessment.

Formative Assessment, also known as Assessment for Learning can be define as ongoing
observation and method of evaluation designed to measure students comprehension. The
assessment is evaluated during the work process and focus on improving the process. It is also to
support and advance students in their learning.

2. What are the three (3) processes of an effective Formative Assessment. Give an example
of each.

The three (3) processes of an effective Formative Assessments are;

i) Where Am I Trying to Go? Teacher needs to present students with thorough goals,
outcomes of instructions. They need explicit target in order for them to understand the
goals they are trying to achieve, and also the purpose of achieving the goals.

ii) Where Am I Now? - Students need to be establish on where they are and where they
need to be, awareness that is central to their ultimate success. Teacher should help
them assess their current position in relation to these goals.

iii) How do I Close the Gap? This is to equip them with the tools to bridge the gap
between the two. AFL helps students to move from their current position to the final
learning goal. students must participate fully in creating the goals, analyzing
assessment data, and developing a plan of action in order for them to achieve the
goals as well as to move forward.

3. What is the role of feedback in Formative Assessment?


Feedback is used to help students achieve their learning goals and take form of specific
suggestions for improvement and discussion of error rather than providing correct answer.

4. Describe the work done on Formative Assessment by Black n William in 1998.

Black and William are the authors of the seminal investigation into the efficacy of formative
assessments. The latest cited work by these two authors was the research review on formative
assessment. The analysis compiled over 250 publications, quantitative and qualitative in which
evidently show that improvements that include strengthening the practice of formative
assessment yield major learning gains. These studies range over age groups from 5year olds to
university undergraduates, across several school subjects, and over several countries.

5. What was the major finding of Black and William research on Formative Assessment?

The major finding by both researchers is that frequent feedback is beneficial for low-achieving
students. They stated that formative assessment can help all pupils as it produce good results
with low achievers. It is achieved by concentrating on specific problems with their work and
giving them clear understanding of what is the error and how to put it right.

6. What is the relationship between Learning Intentions and Self-Regulated Learning?

The relationship between Learning Intentions and Self-Regulated Learning occurred when
Learning Intentions able to help teachers teach, and help students in learning. Learning
Intentions helps in terms of explicit information and guided instructions delivered to the students,
in assisting them in self-regulated learning.

7. What is the connection between Learning Intentions and Self-Regulated Learning?


The connection between Learning Intentions and Self-Regulated Learning is based on the
learners ability to self-regulate in learning to the achievements of his/her goal. Learners who
are more self-regulated are more effective learners in class. They can be seemed more persistent,
creative, assertive and high achievers.
