The last week of my project was the actual week of the event.

On Monday of that week we had cheer practice in order to go over

what all of the high school cheerleaders were in charge of for Youth

Night. Each day of the clinic was from 3:30-5:30 pm. On Tuesday

the clinics began, we gave the participants name tags and

introduced ourselves. After introductions we had the high school

cheerleaders lead stretches. The participants were then divided

into three groups to learn motions, cheers, and stunts. We finished

at 5:20pm and then said announcements and dismissed the

participants. On Wednesday we stretched the girls again and broke

them up into two groups to learn their dances. On Thursday we first

separated the girls into their dance groups and then rotated to their

motions, cheers and stunts groups. On Friday, the night of the

game, we had participants arrive at the cafeteria at 4:30 and served

them pizza. We also distributed the shirts and bows to each of the

participants. At 6:00 we walked down with all of the participants to

the stadium and they cheered alongside us for the first two quarters

of the football game. The participants then performed their two

dance routines at halftime and were then dismissed to their parents.

Overall Youth Night was very successful. During my first three years cheering our

numbers of Youth Night participants ranged from 20-25 participants. My goal was to

triple this number and include cheerleaders with disabilities. My goal was met with

65 participants total and 1 cheerleader who was in a wheelchair. My goal for Youth

Night was to not only to give back to our community but to inspire the girls the way I

was inspired when I was seven. Enhancing Youth Night was so important because

including our disabled student population was a way to make sure every member of

our community had the opportunity to be involved. Community service is so

significant because it shows our youth that it feels good to help others. Mentoring our

youth is so important because in the future they will reflect what we have taught

them. Youth Night did this by showing young girls what it looks like to give back to

your community by doing what you love. As I watched the youth perform and saw

the inspired looks on their faces, I knew Youth Night was a success.
