Brief Overview Secondary Progressions

Alan Leo in The Progressed Horoscope said, The progressed

horoscope must always be judged in conjunction with the
Nativity.
The principle of a day for a year is the measurement that we
use to calculate and delineate secondary progressions. By
moving our eye quickly down an ephemeris we see the years
in which planets station retrograde or go direct, the years in
which there is a New or a Full Moon, or, the years when that
New or Full Moon is an eclipse. We can see when planets
ingress. These are some specific ways in which we work with
progressions, particularly in predictive work.
Pull out your ephemeris and lets try it..

Secondary Progressed Wheel
The progressed wheel gives us further information.
A progressed house cusp conjuncting a natal planet is
significant suggesting change or events.
A progressed house cusp changing signs suggests that the
matters of that axis are about to change and the rulers of that
axis will give us the rest of the story.
If the progressed Ascendant is a sign of long ascension such as
Cancer, the individual keeps that progressed Ascendant for
several years. Moon issues may predominate the individuals
life during this time.
If the progressed Ascendant is in a sign of short ascension
such as Capricorn, they wont keep that progressed Ascendant
forever as they will in Cancer.

Today, (one of) the most popular time measure is

the true movement of the Sun, known as the Solar
Arc in Uranian Astrology. The solar arc is the
difference between the progressed Sun and the
natal Sun-its arc of distance. This can be doubled,
creating a reflection point of the progressed Sun,
or halved creating a midpoint of the natal and
progress Suns. Bruce Scofield

Origins of Solar Arcs
Ptolemy first looked at Primary Directions, a little different system
than Solar Arcs.
In more recent history, Alan Leo discusses them in his piece, The
Progressed Horoscope.
Since this is primarily a Cosmobiology technique, 20th century,
look to Reinhold Ebertin, who in his book on Directions discusses
them, referring back to Alfred Wittes writings as wellThe Bible.
Ebertin actually quotes from The Bible (Ezekiel) the following,
I have appointed thee each day for a year. He goes on to say
that many different direction theories have been explored through
time, but he feels the biblical reference substantiates the
technique.

IdeasforUsingSolarArcs

Calculate that about year before the exact hit and about
year after the exact, one starts to feel the effect of a Solar Arc
hit to the natal chart.

A precise aspect hit includes conjunctions (0), squares (90),

oppositions (180) or trines (120) to natal planets or house
cusps. Can be seem clearly on a 90 degree dial.

When a Solar Arc planet or house cusp is at the 29th degree,

there is an ending, and the person experiences a kind of
darkness or confusion. Watch the house that the Solar Arc
planet rules, as well, in that when it shifts to the new sign, that
houses energy will also shift.

When a Solar Arc house cusp is at the 29th degree, this
suggests that this entire axis is at the end of one experience
and the beginning of another. The individual experiencing this
transition may be in limbo regarding the issues surrounding
that axis.

For life events, particularly when several planets are in a natal

stellium, look at the traveling distance of the Solar Arc planet
as it moves towards each planet in the stellium and aspects it.
A normally slower planet like Pluto hitting the various
members of a stellium by Solar Arc has larger ramifications
than a normally faster moving planet like Mercury. This is one
way to get Pluto to participate in the activities

Solar Arc Directions by Warren Kinsman

Perhaps the most popular method of calculating solar arcs, and, in my

opinion, the easiest, is to subtract the position of the Sun on the
birthday from the position of the Sun on the directed date. See the
following examples and using the time of the birth of the person:
Directed date is July 26 and the Sun is at 3 Leo 1626.
Birth date is July 1 and the Sun is at 9 Cancer 2525.

Therefore, that distance that the Sun has traveled between the birth date
and the day that we are directing our solar arc TO.. Is about 22
degrees 5101. (You can re-read the appendix to see how to convert
these numbers in order to get this precise distance.)

So now that we know how to do
it.what do we do?
Then, we simply take that exact measurement of 22 degrees 51 01 and
add it to every SINGLE planet in the natal chart, regardless of whether
they are retrograde or not.

To calculate the solar arc house cusps, you add that distance (arc of travel)
to the natal MC, then look that new number up in the table of houses and
we see the house cusps that are on our new natal wheel using this
measurement.

The most fascinating thing about this new configuration is that all the
aspects between the planets remain the same.
They are then placed within the context of our newly calculated solar arc
wheel.

Somemorethoughts

This system is questioned by many, but when you take a

solar arc planet and witness how it moves slowly through
the natal wheel, you see it hitting the natal planets in hard
aspect after long periods of time.

When it forms aspects with the original natal planets and

they are EXACT, particularly in conjunction, square or
opposition, you witness events where planetary
archetypes clash.

There are several
obvious changes here.

Note, too, that SA
Uranus, the ruler of

SA Jupiter had just

had just Ingressed
