Clinical Immersion on CVSU at St. Marys Hospital (January 2017-Present)
During the last semester at Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing, students are
required to complete 225 hours of clinical experience. I was chosen to do my immersion
on the Cardiac Surgery Stepdown unit at St. Marys Hospital. While on this unit, I have
gained relevant clinical experience that I will be able to use when I am a new graduate
nurse. I have gained skills in the following areas: assessments, patient discharges,
performing vitals and hourly rounding, giving shift repots to oncoming nurses,
participating in interdisciplinary rounding, communication with physicians and other staff
personnel, phlebotomy, assisting with ADLs, medication administration, patient
education, and providing nursing care. In addition, I have care for many patients who
have had cardiac catheterizations, CABGs, and LVADs.
