ENC2135: Research, Genre, & Context: Word Counts

Writing for Digital Spaces (all parts of the
Project Three: Composing in Three Genres project)
Purpose: For the final assignment, students will use the research conducted within the second project
the hypertextual research essayto create a composition that uses different genres to communicate the Due Dates
overarching theme and topic from that project to a targeted audience. In other words, we need to create
three new pieces that relate to the arguments we made in Project 2. We will target our audience(s),

knowledge we have from developing the research essay. Your genres are your choice, based on your
analysis of the rhetorical situation learned in the research process. However, you should strive towards Genre 1 & 2(first
genres across a variety of composing spacesone print (or physical), one digital, and one that engages a draft): Friday April

topic; you have free reign over your genre choices. However, the effectiveness of the piece can fall apart if

Genre 3 (first draft):
Assignment: This assignment requires us to engage our critical thinking, our rhetorical awareness, and Monday April 17 (to
our reflection capabilities, in order to most effectively communicate to our audience. By considering ePortfolio)
genres that occur across composing spaces, we are able to explore the affordances and constraints of the
genres as well as understand what it means to circulate information and how we can potentially circulate
it. The components of this project include: 1) a proposalclaiming your genres are providing a brief

these projects, you may produce fewer words (though not less content) than previous projectsthat is
expected. The project (and all three components) should include 1,000 to 1,200 words, including the RR. Three Genres
In terms of print genres, you could include a poem, a short story, a movie review, a poster, a board game 1) Print (or physical)

genres, consider creating a video, a podcast, a presentation, a series of memes or anything else. Finally,

Assessment: Due to the varied nature of these genres, we will develop individual assessment models; i.e. count depends upon rest

you select a genre that does not match the rhetorical situation for your argument, that will also not be a Genre 3: 26.5%
successful project. As this project stands, I would strongly recommend you avoid basic materials and
approaches: a brochure, handout, or MS Powerpoint fit this criteria. Expand beyond the familiar or easy
and attempt an immersive approach.
