INTRODUCTION:
Organisational behaviour is that field of human resource management which studies and
understands the working of human resources or Homo sapiens in a group. Over years
industries have grown and modernised and so are the human resources of the organisation,
today they have come a long way, from being considered as slaves and rendered animalistic
treatment and sold as a commodity to being considered as a vital part of organisation. Today,
Human resources or the human capital are considered as the life and blood of any
organisation. Organisations today leave no stone unturned to keep their humans happy, from
sleeping pods, to free laundry, the perks are endless. Organisations have understood the
importance of happy employee and spend considerable amount of time and energy in
understanding the complex human behaviour.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this industrial visit report is to analyse and understand wine industry and
understand the nature of work and management of human of human resources at Sula
vineyards, Nashik.
ABOUT:
Wines, the gods own drink, originated around 6000BC, wine is an alcoholic beverage made
by fermenting grape juice and converting it into ethanol and carbon dioxide. Different grapes
produce different varieties of wine, most common being Vitis labrusca. Derived from the
proto-germanic word, winam, wine has played an important role in different cultures and
histories.
Viticulture in India is believed to have been introduced in 4th millennium BC by Persian
traders, the wine industry in India faced a revolution with founding of Tonia GROUP and this
paved the way for growth and development of Indian wine industry. . The Indian wine
industry is growing at a rapid pace with 42.81% rise in exports in the year 2013. (briefing,
2017) India is now emerging as growing wine market.

SULA WINES
Established in the year 1998 by Rajeev Samanth , Sula vineyards is a winery and vineyard
business spread across more than 1800 acres land across Nashik and Karnataka. The
company produced its first vintage wine in the year 1999, and since then there has been no
turning back, it has now established itself as the leading player in the Indian wine market.
Sula exports to more than 26 countries and holds around 70% share in the Indian wine market
.The word Sula is derived from the name of Rajeevs mother Sulabha. The company has
transformed the way India drinks. The company apart from its wines and vineyards has also
diversified into hospitality with

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
The company emphasises on quality at each step of production. Experts are vigilant in testing
and deliver best to consumers. Each grape is tested for quality, texture and colour. The grapes
are grown in Y shape to provide equal sunlight to the plants.
PROCESS INVOLVED:
A. Pressing: This process involves separation of pulp, juice and skin. The seeds separated
go in the manufacturing of fertilizers, cookies and oil. The Juice extracted is
transferred to tanks.
B. Tanks: The juice is transferred to tanks made up of Aluminium or steel and is kept
insulated and cool to initiate fermentation. The yeast and sugar are fermented till
alcohol level reaches 14%.The yeast settles at the bottom of the tank and the wine is
collected from the top.
C. Storage and warehouse: The wines are transferred to specially treated oak wood
barrels and barrels and storage period lasts for around 1 year. Depending upon the
barrels, they give a mild vanilla or Smokey flavour. The barrels can be used for 5
years.
D. Tasting: the wine is tasted by sommeliers for quality. The wines are tested on several
backgrounds namely taste, smell, colour. There are four steps in the process of wine
tasting namely :
1. Seeing
2. Swirling.
3. Smelling
4. Sipping.
E. Bottling: the bottles are checked, sterilized, filled ,capped and labelled and then sent
for sale.
ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR:
Organisational behaviour is the study of way people interact in an organisation in
order to apply scientific approach of management to workers.
Sula is shaping the industry with innovative and visionary and creative people on
board its team of employees. It believes in motivating employees and giving them
freedom to innovate and create world class products. Much of its new products come
from inputs of its employees.
The company believes transparency and open door culture and strong emphasis is
placed on learning and development of its employees. The company has diversified its
jobs. The Company also provides mentorship to its employees who look forward to
build a career in hospitality and food and beverages sector. The company maintains a
strong HR base and have realised the importance of happy employees in an
organisation.

Kerry Damskey:
He is the current master wine maker and one of the founding father of the company. He has
worked across all leading wine makers across California and is regarded as the best wine
makers of California. His vision and knowledge has made Sula leading wineries of the world.
Ajoy Shaw:
He is the chief wine maker at Sula. He supervises wine making process and ensures that
highest quality grapes are made available for crushing. He is currently studying to become
Indias first master of wines.
Celilia Oldne:
With her passion and expertise, she is now working as the global brand ambassador and
represents Sula in India and Across the globe. She played a key role in developing companys
international market and has successfully introduced the products in markets like Belgium.

EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT:
The company believes inn sustainability of employees and maintains a team of well-
motivated socially responsible employees.
The employees are not just employees but they are Rajeev Samanths family, the work
culture promotes free flow of ideas and innovation.
The company hires and trains workforce from nearby villages with a mix of both Permanent
and regular workers.

CEO Rajeev Samanth follows a Democratic style of leadership with freedom being given to
employees to participate in decision making process, come up with new initiative and expand
the companys profile.

SULA FEST:
Amidst the mystical valleys and the lush green vineyards, the sound of guitar and the sweet
smell of grapes. Sula fest is a two day music festival which offers food, drinks, music and
fashion . The festival goers can also enjoy grape thoomping , wine tasting, and camping. The
festival is part of its initiative to promote wine tourism in Nashik. (Anon., n.d.)

Sula believes that business and society strives and survives together. The company is guided
by the principles of both community.

OTHER:
The trip to Sula vineyards changed the way I think. It energised my vision,
gave me a new spirit in life. Not only did I learn about leadership but I learnt
about a totally new industry, new culture. From the colour of wines to
bottling and grape cultivation, the trip was a totally new experience in itself.
The trip changed my perception towards the industry. Planning,
coordination, team work were my take a ways from the trip.
CONCLUSION:
From launching its first wine in the year 2000 to being the current
market leader, Sula has come a long way ahead. With the vision
of Mr. Rajeev Samanth and team of well-motivated employees,
best quality production and constant innovation Sula has
definitely come a long way ahead and there is still more to go.
The 21st century is all about innovation and creating an impact in
the society, entrepreneurs like Mr. Rajeev Samanth through their
vision and enchanting mind-set create an impact in the society.
