What is the importance of
food and drink in our
lives?

When and why do we


share meals with others?

Turn to your partner and discuss these two


questions. We will ask each group to share
their responses.
We eat and drink to give us
energy. The Eucharist fills our
spiritual hunger so we have
the energy to act in the
memory of Jesus.
It is important to understand
why we do the things that we
do and that physical actions
have deeper meanings.

What is the Eucharist?
The Eucharist is not just First Communion - The
Eucharist is the theological term for the more
colloquial term mass

is only a part of the sacrament

Bread and Wine & Words of the Last Supper

"Through your goodness, we have received


the bread we offer you:
Fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
It will become for us the bread of life."
(Third Edition of the Roman Missal, no. 23)

Through these two signs Catholics believe that the


bread then becomes the living body of Jesus after his
resurrection and the wine becomes the life of Jesus
after his resurrection and that the presence of the risen
Christ is then in the bread and wine.

Cross tells story of Jesus through history we have been left many images. It tells
the story of his saving death and resurrection.

footsteps.
