Don’t go to Arms Acres!

Rehabilitation Facilities HAVE A 1 in 35 SUCCESS RATE!!!!

Bed bugs: The Carmel facility has bedbugs. 80% of the patients are from prison or
jail. Room E9 was found to have bedbugs and a patient was bitten 5 times on the
chest at the end of the month of June. One day later, after only two mattresses were
removed, the same room was deemed “open”. A new patient was put in room E9, in
the east wing, and he was bitten on the arm severely. Bedbugs were found in room
E11 and neither of the rooms were fumigated.

No security: The security camera in the E wing is turned facing the wall and
window to the right of the hallway.

Therapy Terrible: There was no therapy. We were not given advice about relapse
prevention or a strict departure plan. The treatment at times included watching
movies and television shows like intervention. For example we watched special
episodes on Lawrence Thomas’ cocaine addiction, but we never received advice
about our addiction. They might have well just thrown coffee in our face and handed
us a get well soon card. The staff met with me 4 times in 28 days, and I was simply
handed a living sober book by a staff member that is available at AA meetings.

Family day, run by Carroll was unethical. The staff forced us to look our crying
family members in the eye and tell them about our drug abuse and that we were
sorry, or they degraded us. Some of the patients have child abuse stories that are
horrific and they don’t deserve such puritanical techniques, especially since the
staff doesn’t meet with its patients. They made the situation worse.

Staff is aggressive and “exploitive”:

1. Staff member, Thomas Mathas, D wing monitor, aggressively insulted and

intimidated patients and visitors with an avarice.

(1) Confidentiality: Thomas pulled a patient to the side during a medication

run for E wing and revealed the confidential disciplinary record of this patient,
Angel. He discussed Angel’s record with Joe and E wing openly in an attempt
to degrade Angel in front of his peers.

(2) Thomas exploited his own patients; “If catch one of you smoking in your
rooms, I’ll contract the whole room,” a direct quote from Thomas.[ this is a
violation of patient rights]
(3) Pattern Of Conduct:

i. Thomas badgered a pizza delivery girl from “saul’s pizza” for delivering
a pizza to a patient who received approval from security. He called the
delivery service and asked that she be fired. She left arms acres
swelling in tears in front of E wing.

ii. Thomas is quoted as saying in front of medication line, “If I could

have it, I’d run this whole place myself and have my own wing.”
