Phonics and letters V, W, X, Y, Z I. Aims of the lesson By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Identify the letters: V, W, X, Y, Z Identify words: van, walk, box, yo-yo, and zebra. II. Teaching aids Flash cards, speaker, stickers. III. Procedures TEACHER & STUDENTS ACTIVITIES BOARD DISPLAY 1. Warm up: Phonics and letters V, W, X, Y, Z Activity 1: Simon say. Activity 2: Sing and dance - If youre happy - Hockey pokey - Numbers song - Phonics song (from A to U) 2. New lesson Joe 1. New words - T writes the letter V on the board and asks what V is for van letter it is. SS respond I dont know. T reads the W is for walk letter V aloud. SS repeat. Do this many times X is for box until they can memory it. T draws a van and tell Y is for yo-yo SS to guess what it is. SS respond I dont know Z is for zebra (T says with students and acts like teacher also doesnt know what it is). Then T says the words aloud. All together repeat and repeat. Do this several times. Stick the flashcard under the letter V and say V is for van /v/ /v/ van SS repeat along with clapping their hands. Do this several times all together. - Repeat the procedure with others letters and words. - Randomly point to a flashcards or a letter, SS respond aloud until SS can memory all the letters and words. Activity 1: Class game Activity 1: Class game Aim: all together say aloud. - Teacher take turns to show a flashcard slowly (it will be hid by other flashcards). All students say it aloud. - The student with the biggest voice gets one point. Activity 2: Who says fastest Activity 2: Who says fastest - Stick all the flashcards on the board. - T points randomly a flashcard. SS respond. Who says it fastest, will get one point. After all, teach and students say it aloud. For example: v is for van /v/ /v/ van. - Run the game in 5 minutes. Activity 3: Stick the flashcards - Write the letters the board. Activity 3: Stick the flashcards - Show a flashcard. SS say the word aloud. Who says it correctly, will get a flashcard and stick it under the letter. After all, teach and students say it aloud. For example: v is for van /v/ /v/ van. Activity 4: Matching - Write the letters on the board. Stick all the Activity 4: Matching flashcards on the board. - Tell SS that they are going to draw a line from the flashcard to the letter. - Demonstrate with class by an example.
