Adjustments

Knife depth

At delivery the knife is adjusted to the correct depth. Only when the knife has
been disassembled or when the bolts have been released, the following procedure
has to be followed.

Place the adjusting jig on the guide table, round the hand protection bar and
against the upper guide roller. Bring the upper guide roller towards the lower guide
roller by turning the adjusting knob on top of the separator in such a way that
the space between the rollers is 4 mm

Insert the splitting knife in such a way that the knife point just touches the jig
(keep it close to the upper guide roller), see fig. 1.

Adjusting is done by turning the adjustment screws with the socket wrench against
the knife. To do this, release the set screws on top of the knife slightly with the
socket wrench. The cutting depth must be equal over the complete width of the
knife.

Fix the knife by tightening the set screws on top with the socket wrench.

1. Check with the jig that the knife has not been displaced

Knife height

Release the swing-bolt by turning 180.

By turning the adjusting knob on the side, the distance between the knife and
lower guide roller can be set. This adjustment depends on the belt type to be
split. Before splitting the belt, it is necessary to test this adjustment with a
scrap piece of the same belt type.
Tighten the swing-bolt.
The dial indicator is an aid for fine adjustment of the splitting height.

Belt thickness

By turning the adjusting knob on top the required pressure for the belt thickness
can be set.

Splitting Depth

By releasing the swing-bolt of the guide table, this table can be moved until the
required splitting depth is reached.

Skiving set

Assembly of the skiving knife (fig. 2)

Place the main switch in position 0.

Remove the normal splitting knife. Do not turn the adjustment screws, to keep
this knife interchangeable.
Move the upper guide roller and the knife holder block upwards
(with the adjusting knobs).
Adjust the screws in the knife. If the belt is slipping, adjust this size to
71.0 mm to get a better grip.
Position the knife, keeping both screw heads firmly against the edge of the knife
holder block.
Position the fixing plate on the knife and fix with the screws. Check if
the knife does not move.

Adjustment of the knife height (fig. 3)

Unscrew the swing-bolt by turning 180.

Adjust the required clearance under and above the knife with adjusting knob on
the side and the set feeler gauges, see fig. 3 and the table on the next page.
Tighten the swing-bolt.
Check that the positions are correct and that the knife does not touch the rollers.

Working method

Ply separator

When the various adjustments are completed, put the electric switch in
position 1. Start the motor with the foot switch and split the belt to the
required depth.
Some belt types cannot be split in one operation, split these types several
times until the required depth is reached.
If the belt gets stuck while splitting, it can be taken back. To do this, the
running direction of the separator must be reversed by switching the electric
switch to position 2. By operating the foot switch, the separator turns in
the opposite direction, and therefore the belt will
run back from the splitting knife.

The motor must not be in operation while switching

CAUTION

Skiving set

Place the belt end against the edge of the guide table. Start the motor with
the foot switch and insert the belt end to be skived into the machine
Skive the other belt end upside down. Check position of guide table (see
table). If the belt is slipping, adjust the knife to 71.0 mm to get a better grip
(see fig. 2).
It is advisable to test a spare piece of belt before skiving the belt ends.
Depending on the result some adjustments can be made. Check that the knife
does not touch a roller!
If the test piece is not pulled completely and smoothly through the skiving knife
an extra piece (approx. 50 mm) of the same belt type should be joined to
the side of the belt (using an adhesive tape on the underside) to effectively
make the belt wider.
Skive the belt end and extra piece, and then remove the extra piece.

Maintenance and inspection

Keep the slitting unit and all other parts clean an free from dust

The splitting knife must be inspected for sharpness regularly and, if necessary, it
should be sharpened or replaced. For sharpening see fig. 4 for normal knives and
fig. 5 for skiving knives. We recommend users to keep a spare splitting knife in
stock.

Important
After replacement or sharpening of the knife, it has to be adjusted again
