Seminar 4 Level 5 Leadership

(Page 296) Article Thesis: Level 5 executives build enduring company greatness
through a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will. Level 5 is
the highest level of executive capabilities.

Observations:

(Page 297) Level 5 leaders channel their ego needs away from themselves and into
the larger goal of building a great company. Their ambition is first and foremost for
the institution, not themselves.

(Page 298) Level 5 leadership is required if a company is going through a


transition phase and the company intends to successfully come through the
transition.

Level 5 leaders are a study in duality: modest and willful, humble and fearless.

(Page 301) Level 5 leaders ambition for their company is to set up their successors
for success.

(Page 303) Level 5 leaders do not boast about their contributions to the companys
success; instead, they talk about the company and the contributions of other
executives.
(Page 306) Level 5 leaders have an unwavering resolve to do what must be done.
These leaders have a ferocious resolve, an almost stoic determination to do
whatever needs to be done to make the company great. Level 5 leaders are
fanatically driven, infected with an incurable need to produce results. They will do
whatever is needed to make the company great.

(Page 315) Level 5 leaders display a hardworking diligence more of a plow horse
than a show horse.
