Part One: Identification of Learning Problem

General Audience
The audience is composed of 24 seventh grade students at Mill Creek Middle School in
Cherokee County Georgia. The target audience is a seventh grade advanced reading class. Ten
of the students in the target group are identified Gifted with the remaining 14 being identified as
high achievers. Twelve of the students are male and twelve are female. The Students at Mill
Creek are placed in class sections based on a rubric. The rubric looks at standardized test scores,
class averages, and teacher recommendations. Based on the second quarter report card: 19
students scored a 90 or above, 4 scored a 80-89, and one scored a 70-79.
Problem Identification
I collaborated with a seventh grade reading and language arts teacher at my school to plan a
lesson on digital citizenship. We discussed the shortcomings students had relating to digital
citizenship. Our students utilize the internet frequently to complete assignments and projects.
We frequently have students who turn in projects and book reports that have been plagiarized. It
seems that students are unaware of all the ways a project can be plagiarized, resulting in
accidental plagiarism. In some cases, students do not understand how to properly cite
information or paraphrase information found online. We worked together to create a lesson that
taught the different types of plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarism.
Cherokee County school district is on the cutting edge in available technology for student use.
Students can access the internet multiple ways at school: laptop carts, ipad cart, desktop
computers, and personal devices. Students are frequently required to complete projects online
but do not have the skills needed to research and cite information. Students need to be taught
how to use in-text citations and bibliographies. Students also need skills in paraphrasing so their
work does not contain too many quotations.

Part 2: Learner Analysis

Entry Characteristics
Entry skills:
Be able to log onto the network on a school computer
Be able to access links located on teacher website
Be able to use a search engine to find information
Be able to save documents to the OneDrive
 Be able to email documents to teacher

Prior knowledge:
Students are able to login to the school network to access their office 365 account. Students are
able to save their work to their OneDrive account. Students can access saved documents on
various computers in the school.
Attitude toward content and academic motivation
Learners are aware that using the internet in school is a privilege and they must follow
guidelines. Students are motivated by the use of technology in the classroom. Some students get
off task when using technology but are easily redirected. Students in the target group are highly
motivated to learn and perform well in school.
Educational Ability Levels
All students in the target group are either high achievers or gifted students. They perform well
academically and are motivated to learn. They were placed in the advanced content classes using
a rubric that looks at various indicators from the previous school year.
General learning preferences
Students in the group are motivated by the use of technology. Students in the target group are
proficient in office 365 tools and many web 2.0 tools to create sophisticated products.
Attitude towards education in general
Students in the target group are motivated and want to perform well in school. All of the
students in the group have a desire to attend college. Seventy-five percent of the students
already know what they would like to study in college. Students understand the growing
importance of technology on their school career.
