Recording RAW from the Sony FS7 to the


Atomos Shogun

To record RAW output from the Sony FS7 on the Shogun


requires both devices to be setup correctly. Also note that
the FS7 requires the Sony XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit to
output RAW, and the Shogun should be updated to the latest
AtomOS version.

Setup on the Sony FS7

1. On the FS7 the unit must be in Cine El mode 2. The codec must be set to one of the RAW
and the Color space set to S-Gamut3/Slog3. options. This setting is found under System

Setup on the Atomos Shogun


Now that the Shogun is receiving a Linear RAW signal, you have 2 options for recording;

i) Recording Slog2/3 to ProRes/DNxHR

1. Ensure the Shogun is connected to the FS700 with RAW output over SDI
2. On the Shogun, the Input page can be accessed by pressing the top left corner of the Shogun screen
(will show either HDMI or SDI)
3. Within the Input page, select SDI as the source
4. Select Raw Gamma and set it to either SLog2 or SLog3
5. Exit input page
6. Hitting the Rec button will now result in a SLog2 or SLog3 clip being recorded

ii) Recording Rec709 to ProRes/DNxHR

1. Ensure the Shogun is connected to the FS700 with RAW


output over SDI
2. On the Shogun, the Input page can be accessed by
pressing the top left corner of the Shogun screen
(will show either HDMI or SDI)
3. Within the Input page, select SDI as the source
4. Select Raw Gamma and set it to either SLog2 or SLog3
5. In RECORD section select 3D LUT and set to on
6. Exit input page
7. Go to DISPLAY OPTIONS page, identified as the yellow
monitor icon in the lower right hand side of the screen
8. In Select LUT section choose a LUT slot and hit the folder
icon to load a new LUT
9. Select the BUILT-IN tab
10. Choose FS-RAW-S-Log2_to_Rec709 or FS-RAW-S-Log3_to_Rec709 and double-tap to load the LUT
11. Apply the LUT by selecting the MON LUT button on the DISPLAY OPTIONS page
12. Exit DISPLAY OPTIONS page
13. Hitting the Rec button will now result in a Rec709 clip being recorded
