RESTORE OUR SHORES
We began in 2014 focused on the mission of
restoring the health of the Indian River Lagoon, specifically by focusing on
one of its most critical biological componentsoysters. As Brevard Oyster Restoration, we hosted oyster mat
making workshops, deployed the mats in the lagoon and educated our community about the importance of protecting
our waters. We know that the future of our Lagoon and its adjacent waterways requires a cohesive ecosystem, a living
shoreline where marine and plant life sustainably support each other. As Restore Our Shores (ROS), this is our commitment.
As of January 1, we adopted this new name to exemplify that like the Lagoon, our mission of restoring the lagoon is
multifaceted. In our new projects, you can continue volunteering as an oyster gardener and oyster mat-maker, and you will STHC Outreach Team

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS
As a community Zoo, we encourage and
appreciate public involvement. United by their
passion for animals, conservation and education,
our volunteers come from all walks of life and
assist in virtually every aspect of our operations.
Our volunteer team is comprised of more than 350
amazing volunteers, each giving at least four hours
a week. We depend on and are very grateful to
our volunteers, who assist with everything from
corporate group projects and special events to
daily volunteer assignments which include staffing
our giraffe platform and aviary, giving guided kayak
tours, helping our landscaping crew and so much
more!
If you are interested in joining our Adult Volunteer
Program (16 years or older), please visit brevardzoo.
org/volunteer-programs to fill out an application.
Accepted applicants attend orientation and a
two-day volunteer training as well as any other
necessary training before selecting volunteer shifts.

We would like to recognize the following volunteers who

have given ten or more years of loyal service to Brevard Zoo:
Linda Applin Carl Applin Joan Barco Rod Bora Doc Clingenpeel
Barbara Conyers Bob Dieffenderfer Tony Fugaro Miles Goznell
Bob Hassol Donna Hylkema Jack Jarrett Linda Jenkins
Pat Jones Linda Masullo Linda Perry Diane Remick Janet Stack
George Stepanian Sherry Targum Peggy Webb

Its no secret that we love our volunteers! The

dedication and selflessness they exhibit is truly
inspiring. On February 2, we held our Annual
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Space Coast
Convention Center. Brevard Zoo staff showed up in
force to honor and thank our dedicated volunteers who contributed
71,000 hours of service to the Zoo in 2016 which is the equivalent
of 34 full-time employees! Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner,
recognition program, fun photo corner and ended the evening
socializing and grooving to the DJ. The Zoo staff looks forward
to this annual event and the opportunity it affords to express our
appreciation to this amazing group of people.
