April 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I want to bring the following items to your attention in this April Newsletter:
School News and Achievements
Children from our school band and choir took part in the Seinn na ng concert in the Cathedral. Ms.
Vaughan helped to write the music for this Religious Education music programme. The concert was a great
success and our children were highly commended for their performance.
Our school Spelling Bee champion is Lena Casey (6th class). Lena will now represent the school in the
county final in Newmarket NS later this week. Good luck Lena!
Soccer Finals: Yesterday our Boys and Girls soccer team took part in FAI school soccer finals in Lees Road.
Both teams were very competitive with our girls reaching the semi-final and well done to them.

Enrolment for September 2017

If you have a child or know of a child, who would like a place in our school in September 2017, please contact the
school for an application form as soon as possible.

R.S.E Lessons
Scoil Chrost R has a responsibility to cover the R.S.E. section of the Social, Personal and Health Education
(S.P.H.E.) strand of the Curriculum. This content will be taught after Easter in all classes from Junior Infants to 6th
Class. If you would not like your child to receive this information or have any questions, please speak with your
childs teacher.

Split the Pot Fundraiser

Our weekly Split the Pot continues to be a fantastic success and thanks for entering. Our most recent winners were
Ruth (3rd class) winner of 350 and Netania (1st class) winner of 300. Each week we also give out a second prize of
20 to a pupil. Extra cash prizes and Easter egg prizes will be given out tomorrow. The draw will continue after
Easter and take place every Thursday. Good luck!

Attendance and arriving at school on time

So far this year we have an excellent average attendance of 94.4 %. Children who have full attendance for this
Term (January 9th to April 7th) will receive a special prize at Assembly after Easter. Also at our end of year Assembly
we will be presenting Trophies, Gold and Silver medals for pupils that have missed no day, 1 day or 2 days in the
whole school year.

We are going into the final term of school now and I remind all parents that the children must be in school on time
for the 9.00 a.m. bell. We dont want the children to be missing out on important school work which starts every
morning at 9.00. Also the children in Junior and Senior Infants must be collected at 1.40 p.m. and please make sure
your child is collected at 1.40 p.m. sharp.

HSCL News
March has been a very busy month for the Parents of Scoil Chrost R.
Our cookery classes were a huge success and the parents made some mouth-watering family meals! Id like
to take this opportunity to congratulate all the participants on this course who will now qualify for a QQI
Level 1 Award in Setting Learning Goals. We are so proud of your achievements and we look forward to
supporting you on your journey.
Our Basic English classes have been a huge success and we look forward to welcoming the parents involved
into other classes our school has to offer.
After the Easter break we will be starting our Adult Yoga Classes. Classes will begin on April 26th. We are
very fortunate to have Zara Kent from Ennis Yoga Studios instructing us. Why not take some time out for
yourself and take part in these classes which are free of charge.
Science for Fun will also begin after Easter. Further information on classes involved and times will be
available after Easter.
Dads n Lads Cookery and Sport will also begin in the summer term. So please keep a close eye on our
