Optimization

Distance Optimizing
MCI Check is able to resolve distance errors
resulting from elements of different colors which
are located too close. The software will move the
elements in a way that the distance error is
resolved and pad colors will not blend.

Please notice that the Optimization feature

should be used as an additional assistance for
the person who does the typesetting. In the
majority of cases you wan't be able to gain a
layout which is free of errors through optimization
only. It should be seen as a visual helper which
shows error areas and error codes in a more
appropriate way than pervious version did. In
some minor cases the optimization feature will be
able to solve distance errors 5004 and 5006. In
all other cases the typesetter will receive
additional informaltion regarding the type and
position of errors on the layout.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Activate the option Ungroup shapes before optimizing if you want the optimizing process to move
shapes which are part of a group.

Activate the option Center shapes after optimizing if you want the whole layout to be centered on
the current page.

If the directly by the distance error affected shapes should be moved only then activate the option
Move affected shapes only. Other shapes located within the optimizing movement direction will
not change.

Activating the option MCI Check after optimizing will force the software to perform a new MCI
Check process after successful distance optimization. This is useful to make sure that no other
errors occur after optimizing.

Distance reduction
The distance reduction mechanism is intendent
to help experienced users to test the layout with
an reduced distance parameter set. Please
keep in mind that this reduced distance
parameter set may require the producer of the
layout to do some manual finishing work,
because the layouts may cant be produced.

Please notice that the options which belong to

the group Distance reduction arent available
on standalone installations of MciCheck, nor are
they available on computers where Trotec
JobControl has been installed whithout the
appropriate license key.

Selecting CorelDRAW Version

If MCI Check detects a parallel installation of
CorelDRAW software version 10, 11,12, X3
or X4 the settings dialogue will show an
additional section called CorelDRAW. A
combobox will allow to change the
CorelDRAW version to use with MCI Check.
The settings will take effect after next

MCI Check is able to read MCI

color definitions files
(ColorsTrodat.xml and
ColorCustomer.xml specifiying
colors for MCI versions 1.0, 1,1
and 2.0) und check your layouts for
invalid colors. If the color
definition files are missing or
MCI version 1.0 is selected, the
default colors black, green, red
and blue are used.

Please ask Trotec about the

correct MCI color version for
your laser engraving machine
and select the correct MCI
version in tab page General
Settings. Please note that MCI
Version 1.0 does not allow other
colors than black, green, red and
blue.

The table shows all valid colors

and their RGB values of the
specified MCI color version. In the case of having MCI version 2.0 selected you are able to specify
your own colors. Your color definition file can be chosen by clicking the Open button .

Viewing the valid colors within CorelDRAW is done by clicking the button from the toolbar.
Another click will erase the table from the CorelDRAW document again.

To show the color corrected layout within CorelDRAW please press the button . Pressing this
button again will hide the preview.

4.1.5 Analyzing CorelDRAW documents

By clicking on the button the active CorelDRAW document is checked if the graphical
arrangement allows the production of a multicolor stamp. The software is able to inform you about
the reason why the current document cannot be produced with multiple colors (e.g. invalid colors
found, color areas are too close, border is too close, etc.) and also shows the location of the error
directly within the active CorelDRAW document.

MCI Check expects that your typesetted documents are based on original Trodat CorelDRAW
templates!

Analyzing will take some seconds. Please be patient! If the MCI Check application window turns
into green color you got a positive analyzing result and the stamp is ready for multicolor production.
In order to analyze the current CorelDRAW document a bitmap file is created in the specified
temporary directory. This bitmap file is named $$$mco.bmp. Error location values in pixel always
refer to this bitmap file! If some errors occurred the application window will show a red background
color. A detailed error information informs you about the error reason and error location.

The error location is shown directly in the document when the button is clicked.
The X/Y values of the error are shown below the error message. In case of errors
please rearrange some graphical elements and make sure not to use invalid colors.
MCI Check will inform you about invalid colors!

If the error is a distance error (Error 5004) resulting from elements located too close the automatic
distance optimizer can be activated (button ).

Layout colors
The allowed colors are determined by
the MCI version property of general
settings tab. In the case of MCI1,
there are 4 immutable predefined
colors supported. In the case of MCI2
there 18 predefined immutable colors
supported. These 18 predefined
colors are supported by Trodat and
subject to change. In the later case
there are also user defined colors
supported. These colors can be
maintained by Trotec JobControl
users only. Please refer to
JobControl documentation for further
information on this topic. Please pay
attention to the fact that a job which
has been created with MCI2 version
may cause an error message on a
MCI1 machine. Depending on the
current MCI version parameter
different color tables and color
palettes are shown.

4.1.7 Resolving distance errors

If MCI Check identified a distance error (Error 5004 as well as Error 5006) the software will enable
the button and you can start the automatic error resolving process. The error location is
analyzed and the elements are moved in such a way that the blending of pad colors is avoided. MCI
Check tries to minimize the visible layout changes resulting from element movement. In some
cases - especially when the elements have been moved pretty far - manual corrections of the layout
could be necessary.

Please note that the resolving time increases with the number of elements laying on the current
stamp document.

The best resolving results can be achieved by paying attention to the following hints:

Do not convert text into curves before all MCI errors have been resolved. If text is
converted into curves earlier, in some cases single characters are moved when
resolving the error and not the whole text which is the desired behaviour normally.

Always group shapes which belong together (e.g. a logo consisting of shapes of the
same color).

Do not group objects with different colors.

Deactivate the option Ungroup elements before optimizing if you want to make sure
that your grouped elements stay together and are moved as group. Otherwise MCI
Check will treat each sub element as single object and moves sub parts.

After resolving an error it is recommended to analyze the document again in order to make sure
that the document does not contain any other MCI problems.

Optimization example
Based on the layout below some optimization steps will be shown. In this example a valid layout will
be changed in the way that it becomes an invalid one. The present layout will be manipulated in
order to produce several different errors. We will see that several iteration steps will be necessary in
order to solve distance error 5004. Also we will be able to solve distance error 5004 we will see that
the optimization of the present layout will lead to another error 5006.

The main aim of this present example should be to show the method of operation regarding
optimization feature. As well as it should point out the limitations of the optimization feature.
Although we want be able to solve the distance error through optimization all together we will
receive useful information regarding the error locations.

Inking Duration Alignment:

It is important that room temperature is between 20 and 24 celsius while doing this
alignment. Ink must have the same temperature.

Create four MCO jobs with just one colour. Each job with a different MCO colour.

Run the jobs separately and adjust the inking duration per colour until the pads have the
required weight. See table below. Weights in gram!

pad type weight pad weight ink weight total

6/4915 6.0 3.7 9.7

6/4926 8.1 5.7 13.8

6/56 6.3 3.6 9.9

6/58 9.4 5.8 15.2

If weight is too much decrease the inking duration. Increase inking duration if there is too
less ink in the pad.

Due to different viscosity of the colours it is necessary to repeat this for each of the four
colours.

It is not recommended to use the MCO if room temperature is above 24C or below 20C!
An air conditioned environment helps to prevent from difficulties while lasering or inking and
ensures constant quality.
Problem: Colors get mixed up while/after inking

Solution: Ensure that the MCO pad foam is cut all the way to the bottom of the MCO pad.
