WhenupgradingFactoryTalkplatformsoftware:

WhenyouupgradetoFactoryTalkServicesPlatform2.10(CPR9)orlateronacomputerthathasanearlierversionofFactoryTalkServicesPlatformor
FactoryTalkAutomationPlatforminstalled,theinstallationprocess:

createsabackupfileforanyexistingFactoryTalkDirectoryalreadyconfiguredonthecomputer.Shouldyoulaterneedtouninstallthecurrent
versionandreinstalltheearlierversion,restorethisbackupfiletoreturntheFactoryTalkDirectorytoitsearlierstate.SeeRestoreanearliersystem
afterupgradingFactoryTalkplatformsoftware.
checksforbothaLocalDirectoryandaNetworkDirectoryonthecomputer.Ifadirectoryisfound,theinstallationprocessupdatesitwith
supportfornewpoliciesandfeatures,butleavesoriginalsecurityandpolicysettingsunchanged.
Ifeitherdirectoryhasnotbeencreatedorconfigured,theinstallationprocesscreatesitandconfiguresitbyautomaticallyaddingthelocalcomputer
accountandthelocalWindowsAdministratorsgrouptothedirectory,andbysettingadefaulttograntallnewuseraccountsfullaccesstothe
directory.ThisstepallowsanyuseraccountwithWindowsAdministratorprivilegestobeabletoimmediatelylogontothedirectory,withoutfirsthaving
tocreateaFactoryTalkAdministratoraccount.
ifnecessary,updateseachFactoryTalkDirectorywithnewproductpolicies,systempolicies,andsupportfornewfeatures.

Whenupgradingcomputersinadistributedsystem

UpgradeclientcomputersonlyiftheversionoftheFactoryTalkplatformsoftwareinstalledontheFactoryTalkDirectoryservercomputerisnot
compatiblewiththenewversionsoftheproductsyouareinstalling.FordetailsaboutcompatibleversionsoftheFactoryTalkplatformsoftware,seethe
documentationprovidedwithyourproducts.
Ifyoudoneedtoupgradeclientcomputers,werecommendthatyouupgradeclientcomputersfirst,thenupgradetheservercomputerhostingthe
FactoryTalkDirectoryServer,andfinally,upgradeanyremainingrun-timeservercomputerslast.
WhenupgradingclientcomputersfromFactoryTalkAutomationPlatformversion2.00(CPR7),youmustupgradeclientcomputersfirst,and
thenupgradetheFactoryTalkDirectoryservercomputerlast.YoucannotconnectCPR7clientstoaCPR9orlaterFactoryTalkNetworkDirectory
Server.
TousethenewfeaturesavailablewithFactoryTalkServicesPlatform2.10(CPR9)orlater,theFactoryTalkDirectoryServercomputermustbe
upgraded.AnynewfeaturesarenotsupportedonaFactoryTalkDirectoryServercomputerthatisrunninganearlierversionoftheFactoryTalk
platformsoftware.
IftheFactoryTalkNetworkDirectoryServercomputerisupgradedtoFactoryTalkServicesPlatform2.10(CPR9)orlater,thentheproductsinstalled
onallclientcomputersonthenetworkmustalsobeupgradedtocompatibleversions.Fordetails,seethedocumentationsuppliedwithyourproducts.

Toupgradeclientcomputers:

1. BeforeupgradingtoFactoryTalkServicesPlatform,shutdownallRockwellAutomationsoftwareproductsrunningonthecomputer.
2. SomeRockwellAutomationsoftwareproductsrunasservicesinthebackground.BeforeupgradingtoFactoryTalkServicesPlatform,youmightneed
touninstallthoseproducts.Fordetails,seethedocumentationforyourproduct.

Toupgradeservercomputers:

1. BeforeupgradingFactoryTalkServicesPlatform,allrelatedservicesrunningonthecomputerareautomaticallyshutdown.Toavoidlossofdata,shut
downallRockwellAutomationsoftwareproductsrunningonthecomputerbeforebeginningtheupgrade.
2. Beforeupgradingaservercomputer,disconnectthecomputerfromthenetwork.Thispreventsclientcomputersfromaccessingtheserverduringthe
upgrade.IfyouarerunningFactoryTalkserverproductsonyourcomputerandyoucannotdisconnectthecomputerfromthenetwork,uninstallthe
serverproductsbeforeupgradingFactoryTalkServicesPlatformonthecomputer.
IfyouareupgradingtheFactoryTalkNetworkDirectoryServercomputer,youmustdisconnectthecomputerfromthenetworkbeforeperformingthe
upgrade.
3. SomeRockwellAutomationsoftwareproductsrunasservicesinthebackground.BeforeupgradingtoFactoryTalkServicesPlatform,youmightneed
touninstallthoseproducts.Fordetails,seethedocumentationforyourproduct.
4. Whentheupgradeiscomplete,reconnecttheservercomputertothenetwork.

AfterupgradingtheFactoryTalkplatformsoftware,youmightneedtoinstallupdatesfortheproductsyouareusing.

ToidentifytheinstalledversionoftheFactoryTalkplatformsoftware:

1. OntheWindowsStartmenu,clickControlPanel.
2. Double-clickAddorRemovePrograms.
3. Inthelistofinstalledprograms,eitherFactoryTalkAutomationPlatformorFactoryTalkServicesPlatformappears,withtheversionnumber
shownbesideit.
