Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity: The SRS activity will occur after completing a reading section from the text
book as well as a SMARTnotebook file reviewing the information from the text. Students will be asked to
think critically about why the space race was competition and what it meant for each country to win.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation
Survey/Poll Discussion Starter Homework Collection Other
Additional explanation of purpose (optional): Students will complete the Kahoot! Quiz and use this
as a study guide for the Summative assessment over the complete standard. This will also breakdown
the information to allow teacher to see which parts of the standard the students are struggling with.

Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity
During the SRS activity students will log onto Kahoot.it and enter the game pin number. Each
student will create a nickname that will show up on the teachers smart board. Once all students are
logged in and their nickname shows up as part of the game the Kahoot will begin. The teacher will
click next for the first question to appear on the screen. The students are shown the question and a
count down on their device. Once the countdown is over answers will appear. The students must try
to be the first to answer the question correctly in order to receive the points. After each question it
will show which students choose which answers.

After completing the Kahoot! Teachers are able to review answers and see where students need
improvement. It also allows teachers to see if the wording of a particular question may have been
confusing. This SRS also allows students to rate the quiz and if they felt like the learned anything
from the quiz. The Kahoot program allows students to be competitive and creates a game like
atmosphere that students enjoy. This activity will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. If

Types of questions/prompts (Check all that apply):
Multiple choice Multiple Select True/False Yes/No Short open-ended response
or fill in the blank Longer open-ended response
Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students: Who really one the Space Race? Why
was it a competition? Who was the first country in space? Who was the first country to make it to the
moon?

Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? Yes No

Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback:
Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display correct response to the class
after the SRS activity? Yes No
Why or why not? I will show students the correct answers to all questions that have a correct answer. They
are using this program as a study guide for a unit test. We will discuss the question that does not have a
correct answer and explain that the student can answer either way they choose and as long as they can
defend their answer it is correct.
Use of data: The data from this activity will be used by the teacher, students, and parents. This is a guide
to learn from students will be encouraged to work through this multiple times until they retain the
information. This will also help the teacher to see if there are any points in the lesson that need to be
retaught or differentiated.

Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: After the SRS activity students will write down the link
to the quiz so that they can practice it at home. Students will also be asked if they have any other questions
over the space race. Students will then be informed on when the test will be and all material that will be on
the test.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I am using this system to try and promote student
study habits. If students have a fun and engaging way to study then they are more likely to study and retain
the information. I also believe good study habits are important before the 5th graders transition to middle
school.
