Summary: An article titled "Strategies for Effective Classroom Management in the Secondary

Setting" gives various strategies to control the classroom's students, maintain classroom

discipline and to effectively run a classroom as a whole. It is very necessary to know strategies

to be an effective teacher or we will have problems that we will not be able to bear and may even

come to the stage of giving up. It is a duty of an effective teacher to do planning for a classroom

and have student to behave properly in the classroom. The author of an article Paul Pedota gives

various ways to prepare a classroom before teaching such as: Seating plans, physical

surroundings, housekeeping procedures, displays and instruction. All these procedures can

ensure a better learning environment for a student and help student to be active and pay attention

to the teacher. Also, an author gives us knowledge of setting standard in the classroom to expect

a good behavior and efficient performance. He gives several example for this such as: student

attendance, Student lateness, Classroom Interruptions, Student leaving classroom, Student work,

Recognizing students in class, Instruction, recognition of accomplishments and Inappropriate

behavior. These can help to maintain classroom discipline and leads students in a track. It will be

a responsibility of a teacher to see of their procedures are working or not and if not ask help from

other teachers. Communication is also one of the focuses of this article that cannot be ignored. It

takes a major part to manage the classroom. Teacher must have communication skills and be able

to give advice, instructions and encourage students. In conclusion, Pedota instructs readers to not

take this article wholly as procedures to mange a classroom further saying that a management of

a classroom depends in an individual.

Evaluation: When I did my 10 days practicum, I could see how difficult it is to maintain

classroom effectively but my cooperating teacher was very smart and was able to control the

student behavior and help them learn effectively. I could see my cooperating teacher planning

seats to help student work in pairs. He was also very careful in displaying what he taught with

the help of his device and projector and making sure every students see. I also saw him very

good at communication skills. I saw many students been instructed to do their homework,

encouraged to behave properly in the classroom and advices to follow the instructions given in

the classroom. I was able to see how he dealt with student. He understood the behavior of his

student. He never outraged and showed his anger. He had a great control of it which I appreciate

a lot about him. I also want to control my anger and not get outraged by the common behavior of

the student. I also saw him able to make sure all students listen to him when he stands in front of

a classroom with silence. He told me that I also have skill to control class by my voice. I could

see students behaving properly after been instructed by him. This helped me to know

communication as a key part to control inappropriate behavior in the classroom. I am very

grateful to have seen how my cooperating teacher dealt with the situation in the classroom like

an effective teacher. By having observed my cooperating teacher I want to be able to do the same

in my classroom in the future. This article itself has given me knowledge of managing classroom

which I will use wisely as my strength and will not forget them to become an effective teacher

and be in this profession with satisfaction and happiness.
