1. Introduction
(i) Placements in the industry and alignment of career with role, brand and package have come to be
regarded as the most critical goals of professional education. Though learning must be recognized as an
end in itself, yet, it is definitely important that professional education facilitates the process of career
advancement of students. Moreover, it has been seen that right placement happens as much because of
individual brilliance and aptitude as because of strategic preparedness. The university visualizes its role
as a facilitator to bring about a radical change in the employability of its students. Consequently, a
comprehensive placement policy has been framed keeping in mind the aspirations of the students, their
parents and expectations of the industry.
(ii) The Placement Services of the University will now be available to those students who opt to avail them
and commit to abide by the requirements thereof.
(iii) As per current recruitment trends, the recruitment activity starts early in pre-final year / semester
(depending on the program), the students passing out in 2018 are required to gear up for being a part
of placement related activities immediately at this stage.
(i) This Policy shall be effective for all diplomas, under graduate and post graduate programmes as mentioned
below :
a) Applicable for students enrolled in Stand-alone Regular Programs passing out in 2018.
b) Along with their respective integrated/ dual degree programmes (students who have exercised the
EXIT option) passing out in year 2018.
c) Any student, who is passing out in 2019 or later with a dual degree (with EXIT option) and has made
up his / her mind not to continue with dual degree and will eventually pass-out in 2018, can also
1
register for the placement policy. The option to exercise the choice to continue or exit from the degree
will be shared later through Division of Academic Affairs (DAA).
d) If a dual-degree student passing in 2019 or later decides to register for the placement policy 2018 and
later decides to continue with the dual degree, such student shall continue to avail placement services
at no extra fee.
(ii) The policy is also applicable to students who fall under any of the below mentioned categories :
a) A student who did not opt for Placement Services in the lower degree or was debarred will be
allowed to register during the higher degree once again, after paying the registration fee of the
higher degree.
b) A student, who completed the qualifying norms during the lower degree, will be allowed to register
for the placement services in the higher degree due to change of programme by paying the
remaining difference of fee in case it is higher than the already paid fee in the lower degree.
c) A student for whom the placement policy was not floated during the lower degree will be allowed
to register for the higher degree, after paying the registration fee of the higher degree.
(iii) The policy is not applicable for ODL, part-time, M.Phil, Ph.D. programs & International students.
(iv) The policy will be applicable till the last day of teaching of the term ending in May 2018.
Residential Services: All students enrolling for placement services are encouraged to avail the
University Residential Services in the last year of their degree till the time he/she remains active for
placement services, so that in case of any evening / late evening sessions, it is easier for them to attend
the sessions.

5. Registration Process :
(i) The registration process will take place in 2 steps , Process I & Process- II :
a) A link will be activated in the UMS Navigation under Division of Career Services, where by the
student is required to submit the consent for placement registration.
b) The most important step in Process-I is to select the correct program from the drop down list, the fees
for preparatory sessions depends upon this very selection , so students are once again advised to be
very careful about the same. The fee structure for preparatory sessions for all programs is mentioned
in Table-3.
c) M.Tech students have a choice between Company Profile & Teaching Profile. The fees
forboth options is different. A student selecting" option of Teaching profile, will not be allowed to
take part in any company process, they will be open to processes of Teaching Profile only. A
student opting for Company Profile would be allowed to participate in both.
d) Process-II, or the actual registration will take place on Placement Portal, which will be activated for
the students who have given their consent in Process-I.
e) All the students who are not willing to register for Placements will have to cite the valid reasons for
denial on UMS itself.
f) The registration timeline has been defined for Process-I and Process-II, as mentioned in the following
table.
Table 2 : Registration Timeline

i.e. the Policy for Enrolment of Placement Services& the Policy for Preparatory Sessions.
(ix) Important Notes:
Students must not change their email address & mobile numbers: At times intimation to students
may be sent through their registered mobile number and/ or registered email address. So students are
required to ensure that they keep monitoring their email accounts and SMS inbox of mobile numbers. In
the present regime, a good number of companies are opting for written test in online mode. These
companies transmit the confidential User IDs/ Passwords direct to students on their registered email
addresses and/ or registered mobile numbers. At times, companies do not share this information with the
University. Thus students are required to stick on with such addresses and numbers so that they do not
miss any communication. This is more visible during vacations/ trainings when students switch on to
some other local mobile number. The university shall not be responsible for any such loss of
communication arising out of student missing out announcements on UMS/ Registered Email Address/
Registered Mobile Number. No request/correspondence shall be entertained in this regard.
In case, there is a change in email id/ mobile number, students must correct it on the portal by
themselves.

take part in Placement Drive or any related activity and shall be treated as misconduct.
All registered students belonging to 1 year programs are exempted from Uniform Code but must wear
Formals for all placement related activities and follow the below mentioned dress code.
9. Placement Process
The recruitment process for a particular company under various available profiles. This starts with registration
of the students for a particular process and culminates with final selection. The process may include various
intervening stages like written tests, interview etc.
Placement Process may be classified as one of the following:
6
Campus take part.
Off Joint Campus A placement process facilitated by LPU organized in some other institution where
students of LPU are also invited to participate.
Job Fair Any fair organized in LPU where more than one placement processes are
organized
Walk in A placement process which has been declared open to all eligible students who
may or may not have registered for placement assistance.
Company Level Recruitment is the recruitment process held by any recruiting company without seeking
facilitation of the university.
Crucial Date is the cut-off date indicated in every placement process notice. This date will be used for
determining eligibility of a particular student for that particular process.
Keeping the Companys convenience in view, sometimes selection process may take place in any
city/town in the states. The students may be required to travel and attend the same. DCS (Division of
Career Services) shall pass on the information from the organization to the concerned students. The
students are expected to make their own travel and other arrangements at their own cost.
Important Note: The student should inform DCS (Division of Career Services) if they have earlier
applied for the same company on their own, if that company is visiting the University Campus for
recruitment.
7
11. On Job Training (OJT) is a special dispensation created to facilitate the students to gain practical
exposure and enhance their career prospects if selected by a company at any stage during final semester.
The relieving of students under OJT is regulated as per separate policy provisions. The policy is
available on the UMS for the students to read and exercise its utility. All the rules and regulations that
are applicable on Job Offers will be similarly applicable on the OJT offers also.
12. Participation in Placement Drives & various Job Offers Scenarios:
(i) A Student can participate in any number of placement drives till the student secures a job offer. At times
company/university may prescribe certain criteria other than eligibility etc. to create a filter for assessing
the students. This will be binding to the students.
(ii) Similarly, the companies may also prescribe score-lines of few benchmarking tests like AMCAT etc. for
assessing the students or prescribe their own short-listing methodology. This will be binding for
students.
(iii) As a thumb rule, a student should participate in all drives, till the student gets selected. However due to
some contingency, lack of preparation, lack of interest in a particular company or profile the student
might give certain drives a miss. Students will be given specific time span to register for a particular
placement drive during which the student can decide whether to register or not, the final status i.e.
whether the student is registered or not will be taken once the deadline expires. Any student whose
final status is registered will be required to attend the drive, else it would be considered as a
misconduct, implications of which are mentioned in Table 6.
(iv) A student can de-register for a drive if desired, but it should be done before the dead line to
register is over, but once a student decides to remain registered (as mentioned in point above)
student is not allowed to miss the drive. The failure would be considered as a severe case of
misconduct and can invite debarment or any other disciplinary action along with the fine as mentioned
in Table 6.
(v) The university might make certain drives MUST ATTEND for all or a set of students. If would be
mandatory for students to attend the same without fail, else the student will be permanently debarred
from availing Placement services.
(vi) If a student misses 10 drives for which the student was eligible, it would be taken a case of non-
seriousness & the student might be permanently debarred from availing Placement services.
(vii) The university shall follow the principle of One student; One offer. Thus in ordinary circumstances,
after a student secures an offer through a process facilitated by the University, the student cannot take
part in any other campus recruitment process and is expected to join the company for which the student
has secured an offer through university. Once a student is selected , the offer cannot be rejected in any
case other than the provision mentioned in the point 12 (viii) & (ix)
(viii) Second Offer: The University recognizes the fact that first offer may or may not be as per
profile/package expectations of the student, thus the student would be allowed to avail one more offer
as per the criteria mentioned below
a) For all disciplines, except the ones mentioned in the next point, opportunity to avail second offer will
only be presented if the package offered by the company is at least 1.5 times of the one already
availed by the student. Once selected for the second offer, the first one automatically stands
surrendered.
8
b) For disciplines of Biotech, Electrical, Civil & Mechanical, a company or set of companies would
be termed as Day-1 company. For the students selected in that/those companies, the second offer
will not be package bound, i.e. the second offer can be less than 1.5 times as well, preferably from
their own area of expertise. However, if they fail to get selected in Day-1 companies, then point
a as mentioned above would prevail. Once selected for the second offer, the first one automatically
stands surrendered.
Example - A student from mechanical discipline is selected in Day-1 company, with a package of
Rs X PA, then he can avail the second offer irrespective of the package. If he fails to get selected in
Day-1 company, then whichever offer he avails next will be considered as first offer and then he
will only be allowed to participate in drives where the package is at least 1.5 times higher.
(ix) Withdrawal procedure from a Placement Drive : A student can withdraw from participating
in a particular drive after attending the pre-placement talk citing valid reasons using
Annexure-I. Other than that only in very exceptional circumstances, shall a student be permitted to
withdraw from attending the further rounds if shortlisted by the organization at any stage, or be
allowed to surrender the offer if
a) The student explains in writing to the committee about the unusual circumstances that require
withdrawal and the committee accepts these as truly exceptional and legitimate grounds for
withdrawal as per procedure mentioned in Annexure- I. The concerned TPC would be responsible
for bringing the case to the committee, which would comprise of the HD, DCS (or nominee),
concerned HOS (or nominee) and the TPCs, HOD.
b) It might be necessary for the student to meet personally the organizations executive and explain the
reasons.

Result Declared on same day - In case of any peculiar situation arising out of unforeseen contingencies like 2
results being declared on same day etc. the DCS may have to take a balanced view on case to case basis and on
the facts and merits of the case. Any decision taken under this clause will not be treated as precedence for any
future analogies. No request on this count shall be entertained.
Result declared of 1 drive, awaited for other If a student has already availed an offer (1st) and is waiting for
the results for any further drives in which student has participated in, in such cases the student will be allowed 24
hours to choose either of the 2nd and 3rdoffer. All other offers will stand cancelled. DCS many decide to scrap all
the shortlisting once a result is declared. The decision of DCS (Division of Career Services) in this case would
be termed as final.
Students can use Annexure I mentioned at the end of the policy to surrender a Placement Offer.
13. Consequences of Non-Reporting at the Drive / Not Completing the Entire Placement Process :
Students are required to register at placement portal for a drive only after convincing themselves about the
nature of job profile, location and other factors.
In case a student who has already been fined earlier and commits the same Rs 2,000/-
offence 2nd Time, the student will be required to pay a higher penalty.
In case a student who has already been fined earlier and commits the same Permanently debarred.
offence 3rd Time.
Non serious students must not register for a drive. Fine once imposed, will have to be paid, even if the students
placement status turns to debarred .
10
15. Misconduct & Penalty is any act on part of the student which may be covered under one or more of the
following:
(i) Misbehavior with any company officials or university officials involved in the process.
11

the ones secured by student.

be taken as a guarantee of a job offer. The decision regarding making job offers is left to the discretion
of the companies participating in the campus recruitment.
(ii) The terms & conditions in the policy may be reviewed from time to time and may be modified by the
university as per the situation & demands. The university reserves the right to change/ modify any or all
of the above stated clauses whenever found necessary. All changes/modifications will be communicated
