Introduction to Unit of Questioning Skills. Face-to-face classroom.

The teacher will inform students about the project
(objectives/purpose/scope/technology)
The teacher will inform students that they will meet epals from Thailand/Canada
(Alternative/Additional Exercise: the teacher may want students to complete research on
their counterparts country to provide a context. This could be done before this
lesson/unit)
Members of the classroom will develop rules of appropriate/respectful behavior (either
provide students with a handout or collaboratively produce rules/ make certain that both
Thai/Canadian students have same rules).
Members of the classroom will collaboratively create a word cloud with student created
question prompts (i.e analyze, synthesise, recall). The teacher will have students
arrange the words into a hierarchy and later see if the students can categorize them into
similar groups. The teacher will have this group list available when meeting with epals on
a subsequent lesson.
The students are to compile a list of ten questions that would help them get to know their
epal. These questions will be in response to the teachers question of: What are the ten
best questions you can ask?
The teacher is to inform students that 10% of their mark for this unit will be based on their
participation (the teacher is to keep a log of student names and, periodically, place check
marks beside the name each time a student participates).

If rules of appropriate/respectful behavior are to be a handout from the teacher, the teacher must
supply the handout.
