accordance with DP 5.3.2.1 assuming a through-
fastened roof panel system and other assumptions as
described below.

Flexural Strength is determined in accordance with DP 4.1 assuming that the eave strut
outside flange is fully braced by the roof sheeting for gravity loads and are resisted by sidewall
sheeting attachments for uplift loads. (Programmatically, a through-fastened roof with an uplift
R=1 is used.) Distortional Buckling is not a controlling design limit state due to the fully braced
condition.

Axial Strength is determined in accordance with AISI Section D6.1.3 (see DP 5.3.2.1)
assuming that the roof panels either connect directly to the eave strut at a maximum of 1 ft. on-
center, or are tested panel systems. Distortional Buckling is not applicable since members
are designed in accordance with AISI Section D6.1.3.

Web Crippling is not a design limit state due to the resistance is provided by the attached
sidewall sheeting.

Open Sidewalls will void the assumptions that R = 1 for uplift loads and that web crippling is
resisted by the sidewall sheeting.
Commentary Open sidewalls may occur in one or more bays and VISION currently cannot
set design rules per bay. As a consequence, this will require the User to manually:
1. change the R-value of the affected eave strut(s) from 1.0 to 0.65 (or to 0.40 for depths >
8.5). Note-if the members maximum original bending stress ratio is < 0.65 (< 0.40), no
action is required.
2. check web crippling (gravity load cases) per DP 4.1.DA.
3. Increase thickness as required.

B. BRACING

There are several eave purlin bracing conditions that are not associated with the basic eave
strut design procedures identified above. These conditions have been summarized below.

Eave struts are braced at each frame location for eave strut alignment. This is a minimum
eave strut bracing requirement and will be generated in addition to those described below
and elsewhere within this design procedure. See detail BR09K2.
Field of the roof purlin braces will continue to, and connect to the eave strut with eave purlin
braces. Field of the roof bracing may be generated from discrete bracing (DP 4.1.1),
erection braces and/or anchorage bracing (DP 4.7) solutions.
For eave struts with attached Type 2 Standing Seam roof panels, floating and fixed eave
conditions require a minimum of two sets of braces for bays > 16 ft. See DP 7.3.
For Truss Purlin with eave struts that have Type 3 Standing-seam panels, a set of eave
braces will be installed between the eave strut and the top chord of the first truss purlin away
from the eave. Brace quantities will be as follows:
Spans less than 6: No braces
Spans greater than 6 but less than or equal to 20: 2 braces
Spans greater than 20: 4 braces
For the composite eave strut design procedure and bracing intervals, see DP 5.3.2.3.
