and maintaining my own bike to modeling a lift for apartments as a part of a science
exhibition; my curiosity was directed at unraveling the functioning of devices.
I chose a career in Industrial Engineering because I like to solve puzzles, to get
involved in brainstorming sessions, prosecute unyielding problems and in the end I
want to create things that thousands of people are going to use and love. Things
which assist them- knowingly or unknowingly, and it will be honorable for me to be
involved in the creation of such a new intellectual property.
My under graduate program was a judicious mix of theory and practice. Subjects like
Operation Research, Engineering management, Automobile engineering, Total Quality
Management, Process planning and cost estimation, Marketing management and Advanced
IC engines these courses fascinated me and I made efforts to acquire extended knowledge
on these outside the realms of my syllabus. These not only enhanced my learning but also
reflected in my excellent academic grades.
I also made a conscious effort to take advantage of courses and projects, often
beyond the prescribed curriculum. Most of those projects were done in groups of two
to four students. This gave me the opportunity to learn to work in a group- both as a
leader or otherwise
Post master's, I would like to work with a research and development team and aid in
contributing towards advancement of technology. It is against this backdrop that I would
earnestly implore you to consider my candidature, hoping that you would provide me an
opportunity to be a part of your esteemed institution.
My aspiration to work at the frontiers of scientific research leads me to apply for
graduate studies. I believe that a comprehensive knowledge and a good grasp of
fundamentals are essential for such a career. I strongly believe that graduate
education offers a great deal of intellectual and personal satisfaction and challenge.
Also, it offers an opportunity to be a part of ground-breaking research and future
discoveries.
I have become absolutely convinced that the path towards this goal will involve
leveraging my current skills and abilities to make significant contributions to improve
the understanding of systems and concepts in the field of Industrial Engineering. Six
or seven years henceforth, I see myself as part of a leading research group,
contributing my bit to the field of Industrial Engineering. In my opinion, the effective
communication of ideas is an important part of any research career.
I was trained by consultants to implement the "__ Production System", which involved the
use of VSM, Fishbone diagrams and Gantt charts to quantitatively measure and model
systems for streamlining the blade moulding shop floor. I also understood how to overcome
some common manufacturing challenges while driving Six Sigma projects for cycle time and
laminate defect reduction. Though an unexpected economic crisis forced my abrupt
departure from the company, I am satisfied that I developed skills to design a lean
environment, and gained valuable exposure to global manufacturing best practices.
I have since spent my time building on my engineering design skills in Catia and Ansys to
deal with real life manufacturing problems in the future
I learned to work against time, visualize things and apply concepts in real time
projects
