Dear Parents,
Remember to always
Parent Consultation use the school crossing!
Earlier in the year a number of parents completed a survey about what you like about
our school and what we could do to improve it.

It has taken some time but we have collated your responses and also provided
feedback to you to indicate what we are planning to do to support your comments /
suggestions. We have put all of this information into a booklet, which you can request,
from the office anytime. Those parents who attended our meeting on Wednesday 29
March received a copy of it at the meeting.

ERO Visit 3-7 April 2017

Next week we are being visited by the Education Review Office (ERO). It is pleasing to
see so many positive comments both in the survey and also in the front office where
you have been placing your thoughts on what you would like the new principal to be
like. We will share all of this with the ERO team when they visit.

Of course we want our school to keep up its high standards not just in the curriculum
where so many of our students are achieving so much better than previously, but we
need all students to be here at school, on time, with good quality food in their tummies,
lots of sleep and a great attitude to their learning. Clean uniforms would add to that.

Water Only
We are and have been for a while, a water only school. Children DO NOT need
anything else to drink during the school day. If sugary drinks including chocolate milk
are brought into school students will be told to take it home that night. There is a huge
amount of research on what fruit drinks and especially fizzy drinks do to cause
diabetes and weight issues. Students are however given a small amount of plain milk Skids run fun activities and have
most days. afternoon with the children. We also
help do homework and provide
Some research: afternoon tea.

Being overweight, physically inactive and eating the wrong foods all contribute to our risk of developing
type 2 diabetes. Drinking just one can of (non-diet) soda per day can raise our risk of developing type 2
diabetes by 22%, researchers from Imperial College London reported in the journal Diabetologia. The If you will be applying for some
scientists believe that the impact of sugary soft drinks on diabetes risk may be a direct one, rather than OSCAR/Work and Income subsidy,
simply an influence on body weight. Reference http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/info/diabetes we will need to apply as early as
possible. If you are working (full time

A1s Trip to the Beach
In Term One, A1 explored Bethells Beach. We strolled along the beach excitedly. A colossal part of our
experience was discovering valuable vocabulary using our senses. The salty sea air, textures of sand, seashells
and foamy seawater. We even experienced wind whispering to us as we got trapped in the serenity of nature.

Some children learned new facts about the beach....

I learned that Bethells Beach is on the west coast of Auckland city - Donna
I learned that the water at Bethells Beach has a disease called ecoline - Lovely

A few children liked to share their favourite part about the trip...
The best part of Bethells Beach was when we collected the mulGcoloured seashells - Desmond
The exciGng part of Bethells Beach was when the smooth sand smothered around the shore - Niko
The best part of Bethells Beach was when the monumental waves slithered up the seashore - Desmond &
Niko

Three children in one photo were busy making glorious sandcastles, mermaids and tunnels!
Sand soKly smothered Lorenzos exhausted hands as he built his elegant mountain carefully at Bethells
Beach - Ayman & Payton

We have some grand writers in our class!

Splash! IndestrucGble, aquamarine waves tumbled swiKly against rugged, steely rocks and destroyed delicate
salmon pink seashells - Fossta
Roughly, the waves spread swiKly towards us - Lorenzo

I glanced at the sturdy waves and the elegant, glistening sand - Payton.

Swash!!!! The sturdy waves sprayed all the precious seashells and the glistening sand - Arush
The sand was so soK that we were almost going to sink like buried treasure - Mana
