3.1 Features
The ZXR10 8900E series switches of ZTE Corporation are applicable to the backbone
layer or convergence layer of Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). They can serve as
backbone/convergence layer switches for corporation and campus networks.
The ZXR10 8900E series switches can provide gigabit, 10-gigabit, 40-gigabit, and
100-gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and support Synchronous Ethernet, the IEEE 1588v2
precision time protocol, and GPS time synchronization. All the ports support full
wire-speed forwarding of Layer 2 and Layer 3, which means that they satisfy the
increasing requirements for bandwidth. The ZXR10 8900E series switches support
multiple unicast and multicast protocols.
Services carried by data network increase rapidly with the network development. It
requires higher Quality of Service (QoS) and better security for network equipment. The
ZXR10 8900E series switches provide policies and resources of QoS and Access Control
List (ACL), which assures the system security.
The ZXR10 8900E series switches provide the hot-swapping function for power supply
modules and Main Control and Switching (MCS) modules, which means that they are
applicable to large-capacity networks with high reliability.

3.4 Architecture
The ZXR10 8900E uses different racks to implement the functions of switching plane,
management plane, and monitoring plane, which operate together to serve as a switch.
MCS modules and line interface cards are installed on a back panel with fast serial
buses. An MCS module contains a switching matrix, a CPU module, and a memory,
and operates in 1:1 redundancy mode. The switching matrix ensures the large switching
capacity required during wire-speed operation of the switch. The high-performance CPU
module ensures fast protocol processing, and the memory provides sufficient storage
space required due to large tables. Each line interface card provides wire-speed packet
processing through its ASIC and provides gigabit and 10-gigabit interfaces.
For the hardware architecture of the ZXR10 8912E/8908E/8905E switch, see Figure 3-10.

For the hardware architecture of the ZXR10 8902E switch, see Figure 3-11.

through a fast-speed back panel. Two MCS modules can provide a maximum
switching capacity of 2048 Gbps.
l Line interface cards
Line interface cards process packets and send the packets to a specific port of the
destination line interface card based on the processing result. Each line interface
card has its own forwarding table, and forwarding decisions are determined locally
to ensure the wire-speed switching capability. Some line interface cards support
the clock synchronization and intelligent monitoring functions. The ZXR10 8900E
provides the following line interface cards:

5.1 Overview
The ZXR10 8900E switch fan subrack takes in air at the chassis right side (in face of the
chassis) and dissipates heat by forcing air out from the chassis left side. Aluminum/copper
is used as heat-sink material. An air filter is installed at the air inlet to filter the inducted air,
which can be removed for easy maintenance. The ZXR10 8900E switch supports speed
control of each fan for the corresponding slot.
The ZXR10 8900E series switches have the following types of fan subracks:
l ZXR10 8912E fan subrack
l ZXR10 8908E fan subrack
l ZXR10 8908E fan subrack
l ZXR10 8902E fan subrack

indicators, refer to Table 5-1.
Indicator Description
The ZXR10 8902E fan subrack has no indicator. The fan operation is indicated by the FAN
