Ambas expresiones se utilizan generalmente para describir a personas, ya sea

fsica y mentalmente.

Be like es para descripcin de personalidad,

mientras que look like es para descripcin fsica.

Ejemplos con be like:

-What is Peter like? Cmo es Pedro?

-He is very friendly and generous. He is a nice guy. Es muy amistoso y generoso.
Es un buen chico.

-She is like her mother. Ella se parece a su madre (en la forma de ser, no
fsicamente).

Pero tambin se utiliza para describir cosas abstractas, como el tiempo.

Ejemplo:

-What is the weather like in your city? Cmo est el tiempo en tu ciudad?

-Its cloudy and windy. Est nublado y ventoso.

-What is the new hotel like? Qu tal el nuevo hotel?

Its very big and luxurious. Es muy grande y lujoso.

Ejemplo con look like: (slo para descripcin de personas).

-What does Mariah look like? Cmo es Mara (fsicamente) ?


-She is short and pale. She has brown eyes and black hair. Es baja y plida. Tiene
los ojos marrones y pelo negro.

Look like tambin se utiliza en expresiones y significa parecerse (a alguien).

Ejemplo:

-I dont look like my mom. No me parezco a mi mam. (fsicamente)

Para preguntar por el tiempo decimos:

En presente

-Whats the weather like?

En futuro

-What will the weather be like?

Para hacer preguntas acerca de personalidad se sigue la forma:

1) What + be + like

Ejemplos:

What is Mike like? (Cmo es Miguel?)


He's funny and extroverted. (l es divertido y extrovertido)

What's Dana like? (Cmo es Dana?)


She's selfish and unpleasant. (Ella es egosta y desagradable)

What are your friends like? (Cmo son tus amigos?)


They're kind and generous. (Ellos son amables y generosos.

Ntese que para responder a estas preguntas se tiene que tener conocimiento
bsico de los adjetivos de personalidad, he aqu algunos de los que se pueden
recoger del curso bsico.

Preguntas de Apariencia personal en ingls

Para hacer preguntas acerca de la apariencia de la gente se tienen en cuenta dos


formas:

1) What + do + look like

Ejemplos:

What does Amanda look like? (Cmo es Amanda?)


She's tall and thin. (Ella es alta y delgada)

What does Peter look like? (Cmo es Pedro?)


He's fat and he has blue eyes. (l es gordo y tiene ojos azules)
What do your brothers look like? (Cmo son tus hermanos?)
They are strong and they have black hair. (Ellos son Fuertes y tienen pelo negro)

2) Who + do + look like

Ejemplos:

Who does your brother look like? (A quin se parece tu hermano?)


He looks like my father. (l se parece a mi padre)

Who does Sara look like? (A quin se parece Sara?)


She looks like her grandmother. (Ella se parece a su abuela)

Who do your sisters look like? (A quin se parecen tus hermanas?)


They look like my mother. (Ellas se parecen a mi madre)

Es de notar en estos ejemplos que cuando se pregunta de la apariencia fsica de la


gente adems de responder con adjetivos de personalidad tambin se puede
responder con rasgos de la gente como el color de los ojos o del cabello.

Cuando comienza la pregunta con "Who" refiere a quien se parece fsicamente.


Menciono algunos adjetivos de personalidad vistos con anterioridad.

Adjetivos de Apariencia:

Attractive (Atractivo)
Beautiful (Hermoso)
Chubby (Obeso)
Fat (Gordo)
Short (Chaparro)

Look
Follow the verb "look" with an adjective to describe someone's emotion or state:

He looks happy.
She looks excited.
You look tired.

Remember to use do / does; don't and doesn't for negatives and questions.

You don't look very happy.


Does he look sad, in your opinion?

You can also use "look" in the present continuous tense to talk about someone's
health:

"You're looking good!" (= You're in good shape!)


"He's looking ill." (= He appears ill.)

Be like
We use "be like" to talk about similarities (both physical and in character).

(Remember to change "be" to the correct form of the verb:

I'm like my sister.


David is like his father.
She's like her mother.
Who are you like?
My sister and I aren't like anyone else in our family.

You can also vary "be like" with other describing words:

He's a lot like (his brother)


He's really like (his brother)
He's very like (his brother)
He's just like (his brother)
He's a bit like (his brother)
He's quite like (his brother)

Remember to use the verb "to be" as the auxiliary for questions and negatives:

He isn't like his mother at all!

We can also use "be like" to ask for a description of places and things.

I saw the new office building today.


What's it like? (= What is it like?)
It's beautiful!

I saw the new Brad Pitt film last night.


What was it like?
Pretty good! He's great in it.

Look like
Use "look like" to talk about a person's physical similarity with another person.

I look like my mother.


You look like your sister.
He looks like his grandfather.

(Remember, with the verb "look" in the present simple tense, you need do /
does; don't / doesn't to make questions and negatives.)

Do you look like your sister or your brother?


Does he look like his mother?
They don't look like their parents.

He's nice. He's friendly and chatty.

Who is he like? = asks about physical similarity or similar character to


another person

He's like his father. They're both quite ambitious.

What does he look like? = asks for a physical description

What does he look like?


He's tall and slim.

Who does he look like? = asks about physical similarity with another
person
