La finalidad se puede expresar en ingles de diversas maneras:

To/ in order to / so as to + infinitivo

Toms mother has been cooking cottage pie every Thursday for 30 years to please her husband.
Tom advised his father to take up a hobby in order to broaden his mind.
The football team bought a new Dutch player so as to win the championship.

Tambin se puede expresar la finalidad con so that + clause (subject +can/could + main verb)

Si la finalidad es negativa, se utiliza in order not to y so as not to + infinitivo


Tom didnt want to talk much to his father in order not to upset him / so as not to upset him

Cuando el sujeto de la oracion que expresa la finalidad es diferente al de la oracin principal, la finalidad
se expresa con so that

Toms mother is taking part in a protest march next month so that people will know how the elderly feel.
Something should be done so that people dont think the elderly are mentally slow.

1. My grandmother does voluntary work. She wants to stay active. (so that)
2. They should see their doctor regularly. He / she can check their blood pressure. (so that)
3. They must keep warm. They dont want to get hypothermia. (so as not to)
4. They can go to a day centre. That way they can make new friends.
5. They must look for new experiences. They want to stay young.
6. People should have pension plans. They wont have to worry about money in later life. (so that)
