ITASCA SOFTWARE TRAINING COURSE

FISH for 3DEC v5.0

This course is suitable for existing 3DEC users and/or those who have taken the Introductory 3DEC
course.

Dates and duration: Thursday 19 September 2013 (1 day)

Venue: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Overview: This training course provides instruction on the use of the built-in programming
language in 3DEC (called FISH) to manipulate the 3DEC model. The one-day
course provides an overview of the capabilities of FISH and covers details of
using FISH for 3DEC model manipulation. Topics include:

Creating and calling functions

Loops and conditionals (if-then)
Arrays, vectors, matrices and tensors
Executing 3DEC commands within FISH functions
Reading and writing to files
Accessing block, zone, gridpoint and contact data
Discrete Fracture Network functions

Emphasis will be placed on problem solving and useful real-world applications

will be presented. This is "hands-on" training, and exercises with 3DEC are
provided throughout the course.

Who should attend: The course is aimed at those with some knowledge of 3DEC. Experienced users
will benefit from exposure to the several enhancements that have been made
to FISH in 3DEC 5.0.

Course Presenters: Jim Hazzard: Dr. Hazzard holds a PhD in applied seismology and has worked for
the last 10 years in development of numerical modelling programs for
geotechnical engineering applications. Jim has worked at Itasca for 3 years and
during that time has been involved in several consulting projects for
underground and open pit mines using FLAC, FLAC3D and 3DEC. Jim is currently
the 3DEC project manager and lead developer.

Tatyana Katsaga: Dr. Katsaga is a geomechanics specialist with a Ph.D. in civil

engineering. Her area of expertise is focused on the mechanics and numerical
simulation of continuum and discrete media. She has more than 15 years of
research and consulting experience. She has provided consulting on many
projects including mining (deep mines, block cave mining, pillar stability,
optimization of mining layouts), nuclear waste storage, geothermal energy and
petroleum using PFC2D, PFC3D, FLAC3D and 3DEC codes.

What to bring: Delegates should bring their own laptops with the latest version of 3DEC v5.0
software downloaded and installed from the Itasca website (further instructions
will follow for registered delegates). Users should have administrator privileges
on their laptops and have a working knowledge of their laptop operating
system. USB security keys will be provided (laptops must have a free USB port).
