1.1.

Parking and Road Works

1.1. Parking Requirement
1.1.1. General Considerations
In designing the parking requirement for this project, there are a few
considerations that need to be taken account into, which are:
Number of car park that must be provided with respect to the
area of development
Number of car park for disabled person
Number of parking spaces for motorcycles
Dimension of each car park bay
In developing the parking area plan, several important details should be
considered. The most important aspect is providing the maximum
parking capacity in the available space while ensuring convenience and
safety in the design. The maximum capacity of parking is designed
based on the following design criteria:
90 degree parking
Size of parking : 4.8 m x 2.4 m (car)
2.0 m x 1.0 m (motorcycle)
Tertiary Education: 1 car park/500 sq. ft.
1 motorcycle/3000 sq. ft.
1 space per 100 vehicles (disabled person)

1.1.2. Parking Designs

Total GFA (calculated) = 105,000 sq. ft.

No. of car parking = (105,000 / 500) sq. ft.

= 210 units

No. of visitors parking = 230 x 0.1

= 21 units

No. of parking for disabled = (210+21) / 100

= 3 units

No. of car parking (including visitors and disabled) = 234 units

No. of motorcycle parking = 105,000 / 3000

= 35 units

The total Gross Floor Area (GFA) calculated is 105,000 sq. ft. After
calculation, the number of parking required which includes the visitors
parking and also disabled parking is 234 units. Meanwhile for the
motorcycle parking, the required unit is 35 units.

Check Adequacy:
Parking Designs
Total number of people in 1 block = 1000 people
No. of staff = 167
No. of student = 833
Assume 1 staff = 5 students

For staff:
x+ y=167

0.367 y + y=167

1.367 y=167

y=123 car users

167123=44 motor users

For student:
x+ y=833

0.367 y + y=833

1.367 y=610

y=610 car users

1 parking space = 3 staffs

1 parking space = 5 students

Parking requirement for car:

No. of parking required (staff)

Total car space=41+122=163<240(okay )
