Introduction

This week everyone will write a letter and personify someone in the Civil War. It
could be a Union, Confederate soldiers or generals. You can also pick an
abolitionist. Anyone who's life was changed because of the Civil War. You will write
this letter in form of a post card you will say where you are, role as it pertains to
the Civil War and discuss what you believe this person would have experienced
based on your research. Before we begin this project, you need to be
knowledgeable of some events and people involved in the Civil War.

This hand out will be made available to you if you are having complications with google doc on
your ipad.

3. Look over the timeline. What generals led the Confederate and Union Armies? What do we already know about these

Part II Instructions for Post Card Project


Now that you are more knowledgeable about the people in the Civil War you are now going
to decide who you are going to portray? Will it be a Union Soldier writing a letter to his wife?
A Confederate Soldier who is writing to his family? Perhaps its a general writing a letter to
President Lincoln describing the casualties. It can about one of the freed slaves who joined
the Army and writes to his brother describing his hardships.
For this project, you will be using your keynote app and yes you will be presenting to the
class. Your letter should consist of at least two paragraphs and picture. Your letter should
have at least three key terms learned in class.
A sample of what a post card should look like will be passed around in class.
