Section 26 51 13 - Lighting Fixtures

1.04 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS


A. Conform to requirements of ANSI/NFPA 70.
B. Conform to requirements of any applicable energy codes.
C. Furnish products listed and classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. as suitable for
purpose specified and shown.

1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit under provisions of Division 1.
B. Shop Drawings: Indicate dimensions and components for each luminaire that is not a
standard product of the manufacturer.
C. Product Data: Provide dimensions, ratings, and performance data. Performance data shall
include all photometric curves for the luminaire with the lamp and ballast specified, air

handling data (if applicable), and expected light levels (in footcandles) for the layout,
ceiling height, reflectances and depreciation values shown on the Drawings. Provide
ballast manufacturer and model number.
D. Manufacturer's Instructions: Indicate application conditions and limitations of use
stipulated by product testing agency specified under Regulatory Requirements.
E. Manufacturer's Instructions: Include instructions for storage, handling, protection,
examination, preparation, and installation of product.

1.06 QUALIFICATIONS
A. The manufacturer of the assembly shall be the manufacturer of the major components
within the assembly.
B. For the equipment specified herein, the manufacturer shall be ISO 9000, 9001 or 9002
certified.
C. The manufacturer of this equipment shall have produced similar electrical equipment for a
minimum period of five (5) years. When requested by the Engineer, an acceptable list of
installations with similar equipment shall be provided demonstrating compliance with this
requirement.

1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING


A. Equipment shall be handled and stored in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. One
(1) copy of these instructions shall be included with the equipment at time of shipment.

1.08 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA


A. Submit under provisions of Division 1.
B. Maintenance Data: Include replacement parts list.

1.09 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer shall warrant equipment to be free from defects in materials and
workmanship for the lesser of one (1) year from date of installation or eighteen (18)
months from date of purchase.

1.10 PROJECT CONDITIONS


A. Verify that field measurements are as shown on Drawings.
B. Equipment locations shown on Drawings are approximate unless dimensioned. Locate
equipment as required to meet Project Conditions.
C. Coordinate Work under provisions of Division 1.
D. Determine required separation between equipment and other work.
E. Determine equipment locations to avoid interference with other work.
F. Coordinate equipment, duct, piping, conduit, cable tray and cable installation with
Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors. Assure proper clearances and needed room to

install respective systems.

1.11 PROJECT RECORD DOCUMENTS


A. Submit under provisions of Division 1.
B. Submit three (3) sets of Record Drawings to the Engineer.
C. Record Drawings shall include the Drawings and information required by section 1.05.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 LUMINAIRES
A. Furnish products as specified in schedule on Drawings. Provide fixture adapted to ceiling
construction used. Verify types of ceiling construction with the General Contractor prior
to releasing fixtures for fabrication and delivery.
B. Install ballasts, lamps and specified accessories at factory.
C. Furnish and install plaster frames and/or trim rings for all fixtures installed in plaster
ceilings or other type ceilings requiring frames or trim rings for finish.

2.02 BALLASTS
A. Fluorescent Ballast:
1. Description: ANSI C82.1, high power factor (greater than 90%) type electronic
ballast.
2. Provide ballast suitable for lamps specified.
3. Voltage: Match luminaire voltage.
4. Source Quality Control: Certify ballast design and construction by Certified Ballast
Manufacturers, Inc.
5. Energy Saving.
6. Ballast Factor: 1.00 or as shown on the Drawings.
7. Acceptable Manufacturers:
a. Advance
b. Motorola
c. Lutron
d. Magnetek
e. Holophane
B. High Intensity Discharge (HID) Ballast:
1. Description: ANSI C82.4, HID lamp ballast.
2. Provide ballast suitable for lamp specified.
3. Voltage: Match luminaire voltage.
4. Limit starting current to equal or less than operating current.

2.03 LAMPS
A. Incandescent Lamp Manufacturers:
1. Sylvania.
2. Phillips.

3. General Electric.
B. Fluorescent Lamp Manufacturers:

D. Provide lamp type specified for luminaire by luminaire manufacturer.
E. Reflector Lamp Beam Patterns: ANSI C78.379.
F. Supply lamps for all luminaires as indicated on the Drawings.
G. Lamps in the same room shall have matching color temperatures.
H. Supply 10% spare lamps (minimum: six) with matching color, electrical and physical
characteristics for each luminaire type specified.

I. All lamps shall have protective Teflon coating for food packaging area use unless located
in the offices, restrooms, or conference rooms.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 FACTORY TESTING


A. None required beyond factory standard tests for the equipment specified under this Section.

3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Examine substrate and supporting grids for luminaires.
B. Examine each luminaire to determine suitability for lamps specified.
C. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
D. Install suspended luminaires using pendants supported from swivel hangers. Provide
pendant length required to suspend luminaire at indicated height.
E. Locate recessed ceiling luminaires as indicated on reflected ceiling plan.
F. Install surface mounted luminaires plumb and adjust to align with building lines and with
each other. Secure to prohibit movement.
G. Exposed Grid Ceilings: Support surface mounted luminaires on grid ceiling directly from
building structure.
H. Install recessed luminaires to permit removal from below
I. Install clips to secure recessed grid-supported luminaires in place.

J. Install wall mounted luminaires at height on Drawings
K. Install accessories furnished with each luminaire
L. Make wiring connections to branch circuit using building wire with insulation suitable for
temperature conditions within luminaire.
M. Bond products and metal accessories to branch circuit equipment grounding conductor.
N. Install specified lamps in each luminaire.

3.03 INTERFACE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS


A. Equipment shall be arranged to be in compliance with all applicable code clearances, to
allow proper conduit and cable entry, and to not interfere with equipment from other
trades.

3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL


A. Operate each luminaire after installation and connection. Inspect for proper connection
and operation.
B. Adjust Work under provisions of Division 1.
C. Aim and adjust luminaires as directed.
D. Relamp luminaires that have failed lamps at Substantial Completion Date. Replace ballasts
that have failed at substantial completion date.
E. Clean Work under provisions of Division 1.
F. Clean electrical parts to remove conductive and deleterious materials.
G. Remove dirt and debris from enclosure.
H. Clean photometric control surfaces as recommended by manufacturer.
I. Clean finishes and touch up damage.
