Energy Efficient In Context of Artificial Lighting
1. Interior Lighting Options
a. Day lighting is the use of windows and skylights to bring into the library. As to proposed to the library building, todays highly efficient windows and advances in lighting design allow efficient use of windows to reduce the need of artificial lighting during daylight hours without causing heating or cooling problems. b. This basically what has been implemented to the library of Raja Zarith Sofeah. They were using natural daylight as a part of lighting system inside the open space of the building.
c. In terms to make it more energy efficient, the sizes and location
should be based on the cardial directions rather than their effect on the street-site appearance. North facing windows are also advantageous for day lighting because they admit relatively even, natural light, producing little glare and almost no unwanted summer heat gain.
2. Indoor Lighting Technologies
a. We would like to proposed LED luminaires type to the library building since it is offer a huge number of advantages; i. Extremely small designs possible ii. Long operating life iii. Robustness iv. Very low energy consumption with high luminous efficiency v. Extremely low maintenance costs b. All the components used in the luminaire are optimally matched in terms of engineering concept, optics, thermal properties, control and power supply. For indoor use, a downlight luminaire must be designed in such a way that it can be installed with suitable heat extraction in a false ceiling. 3. Indoor Lighting Control o In order to make it more sustainable, we proposed to install automatic blinds located along the faade facing the exterior view which will activate when necessary during the day to reduce solar gain and thus reduce air-conditioning load. o Install the light sensor (dimmer controls) at the perimeter of the library areas allow the lighting control to dim or switch off lighting when there is sufficient natural light to illuminate the building interior.
o Install occupancy sensors to detect activity within a certain area. They
provide convenience by turning lights on automatically when someone enters a room. They reduce lighting energy use by turning lights off soon after the last occupant has left the room. Occupancy sensors must be located where they will detect occupants or occupant activity in all parts of the room.
